Rarely seen 5 veneer by Spain. Fedunka made this cue.
Here is a couple of pics. Some before and after refinish What do you guys think? What about this splice, what's it called? Full splice is it not? Solid rosewood Handle.

Thought I'd post this since were showing off some of Spains work

Nice

He did Full splice construction and that sure looks full splice to me. Shouldn't the joint pin be in each shaft?

Well the pin is 5/16 x 18 piloted SS joint. I thought it was FS but i'm no cue expert.

The way a cue should look.
Those are some thick veneers!

Shafts have Phenolic inserts? Hard to tell from the photo.

Hey Rod-
Just noticed that you were the one who responded in my thread about also owning a Fedunka. I guess this is it! And man, it is a beauty.I love the veneer work. Excellent cue!

The one shaft you see is original and ain't quite straight. What you see is an aluminum insert. Two others were made by Fedunka but have brass inserts. The last two were made by Prather, you can see the MP is not as brilliant.

Picture 24 looks like a full splice.

Unless Fedunka had a tendency to do so, I'd so no.

Only the blank was from Burton (who made cues with the joint pins in the shafts).

Fedunka could not make his own blanks. His blanks came from Karl Meyer, Spain, Szamboti and anything he could convert. I believe he got some of his Spain blanks from Paradise, possibly right from Burton, as evident in this above cue. Its a 5 veneer spain blank which I have yet to see on any Palmer, but there are a few Paradises with the 5 veneers.

Thanks Brian, yes I did reply and yes this is the cue. It's interesting what sets these cues apart from the builders at that time or now for that matter. It has a 1/2" dimeter weight bolt. It is aluminum but it is also drilled out to accept a 1/4" steel stud if one wants more weight added. That and the locating pin for the SS joint. Although I think Paradise may have used the pin as well.

I think all of these are old beauties but not mentioned very often because of the low quantity made. All of my high runs in every game I've played was made with this cue. It's a real solid cue. I retired it though and like you thought of selling mine.

Joe,

Meyer make blanks? Possibly you have an example? I'm just curious. I think there may be more examples from these relative unknown makers that might interest more than a few. Even Fedunka, I mean who is this guy? We the living know what we know but seldome does anyone come forward about the person.

We need a thread of this sort, I think, to give these guys some credit. Get to know what they did etc. They were the modern day pioneers of our sport. Maybe I'm all wet but I love history. If anyone wants to chime in feel free.
