more one pocket strategy

someone posted some one pocket strategy question which got me thinking about the game. the onepocket.org is a great website, i might add. anyway they have a good diagram of a good break shot in one pocket:

so my oponent leaves me this spread....what would you do here? play into the pack trying to get a ball on the rail but frozen to the rest of the pack leaving no shot for him? i like the game a whole lot but dont have good early game strategy...thanks,

Without actually seeing where the balls ended up after the break, I couldn't possibly tell you what I'd do.

HIS pocket is where it says "your pocket here".....your pocket is on the bottom left
 
Yeah, hard to tell when your diagram did not work, and the one on the other website doesn't show final position of all the balls.

That being said... I think a standard move is to go off the 5 and try to either get really close to your opponent's pocket, or under the edge of the 10.

If the 4 ball weren't there, I might kick one rail softly with right spin at the edge of the 10, letting the cue ball trickle towards the rack, but not far enough to give up the 6.

Also, another option is to bank the 15, while drawing back slightly to keep your opponent off the 13 and 10 That's just a survival shot, though.

To tell you the truth, the opponent put down a brutal break here, and without seeing exactly where all the balls end up, as of now I'd say he has you in a hurt locker. If I'd been playing well, and knew the rails on this table, my first choice might be to kick 4 rails behind the 10, with the speed such that I am aiming to just hit the 4th rail. I want to be hugged up behind the 10.

Yer really in trouble here. If you play the 5 ball shot, you remove the only threat you have, and yer STILL gonna be behind the rack on yer next shot.

I'd definitely go with the 4 rail kick. With the proper speed, even if you hit it slightly bad, yer not giving him the 10 ball.

Fortunately, most people don't lay this good a break down on yah. I mean, whaddaya want here? He froze the cue ball to the side rail AND he left a ball inches from his pocket, AND he kept you from kicking directly one rail at the 10.

This break is brutal.
