Capone’s in Spring Hill hosted its inaugural Super 32 Open 10-Ball Championship this weekend. Among the 32 player limit were not one, but 4 former U.S. Open Champions. Johnny Archer, Rodney Morris, Corey Deuel, and Tommy Kennedy graced the room with their light hearted character and amazing talent. Amond the A-list of talent were Tony Crosby, Donny Mills, Mike Davis Jr., John DiToro, Justin Hall, James Adams, Stoney Stone, and many more. This 32 player $5000 guaranteed to the winner event would prove to be one of the biggest events and largest prizes in recent Florida history.
To kick things off, James Adams was awarded Player of the Year on the Florida Pool Tour Amateur Tour. By having such a successful year on and off tour, James was asked to give up 1-rack for the duration of the season and did so without hesitation. Consistently placing in the top 3 and repeatedly coming in as runner up in the Super 16 Open 10-Ball events, James clearly has shown tremendous growth as a player on the Florida Pool Tour and as a person away from the table. His year would ultimately be highlighted when he went undefeated throughout the Florida State Amateur 9-Ball Championship in Tallahassee in October.

Tommy Kennedy was also celebrated with a nice trophy as Player of the Year on the Florida Pool Tour Super 16 Tour. Kennedy won 3 in a row, and littered the tour with top finishes throughout the season. With a point system in place, Tommy practically ran away with the title almost half way through the season. Kennedy will be in the hunt for the 2016 Open 10-Ball Championship title in Tallahassee, FL on January 16-17, 2016.

In the main event there were quite a few distant matches, with some white washes. Close matches and hill/hill thrillers came in equal amounts. Mike Davis Jr. put a stinger on Pedro Botta 9-0 as well as Stoney Stone laying the same score down on Ray Crisler. Jason Sheerman would upset Tommy Kennedy in the first round 9-8, as well as Corey Deuel slipping past Justin Hall 9-7. Donnie Mills narrowly escapes the clutches of Mike DeLawder 9-8 in which Stoney Stone returns the favor by besting Mills by the same score.

Tony Crosby, Rodney Morris, Joshua Roberts, Corey Deuel, Johnny Archer, Felix Luna, Donny Mills, and Mike Davis Jr. rounded out the top 8 players left after day 1. Johnny Archer burned the midnight oil until about 3am besting Stoney Stone to come back on Sunday. Tony Crosby and Rodney Morris would match up in the semifinals as well as Joshua Roberts and Corey Deuel. Rodney put a stinger on Crosby 9-1 and Deuel narrowly escapes Josh Roberts 9-8 to set up the hot seat match. Going west Tony Crosby would pick up Mike Davis Jr and Josh Roberts would pick up Johnny Archer. Roberts on the charge would slide by Archer 9-8 while Tony Crosby heats up and outs away Davis 9-1, setting up the one-loss side final between Roberts and Crosby. Back on the winners side, Rodney Morris and Corey Deuel would square up to see who gets the hot seat and Rodney would capitalize on some mistakes by Deuel and make the run outs look too easy, winning 9-4. Morris would capture the hot seat and wait for his opponent. Back on the west side of the chart, Roberts and Deuel match up to see who gets a last shot at the undefeated Morris. Deuel would not let Roberts get that close this time around and puts the set away 9-6 to jump back over and take on Morris. In the final Morris would practically put on a clinic. Taking advantage of a couple of unforced as well as forced errors. Setting up a good size lead, Morris would put the set away at 11-4 to claim his title as the Super 32 Open 10-Ball Champion.
