For pool people, Matchroom staff, and Orlando businesses that are connected or able to sway the policies and are reading this….here are my ideas after attending 2019 Las Vegas, 2022 Las Vegas, and 2024 Orlando.
I understand this feels like a long rambling list of petty requests….but I mean these wholeheartedly. I’ve been a spectator at the Derby twice, went to the World Games, and been active here and on Reddit for a while. I care about the experiences as a spectator and hope these ideas can build for a better experience.
- Please make it easier for priority tickets to buy the same seat for all days. There’s no reason to make it be individual purchases per day.
- Please add more 7 foot and 9 foot tables at the hotel and not just for one-off tournaments.
- Please reach out to the local pool halls (in reasonable driving distance) and see about having nightly exhibitions for the other pool players/commentators/legends that just happen to also come into town. Or maybe coordinate something where spectators can play since Matchroom rented the place for the night. I know this can throw off league at some places but maybe there exists other options for spectators to see the other parts of town and support local businesses.
- Please make it possible for the normal ticket holders to pre-purchase tickets to buy drinks at a dedicated line (or at least not make one person be responsible for all of the work).
- Please double check the spotlights so they aren’t glaring in the eyes of the spectators (this is nit picky but for like half a day in 2024 it was terrible).
- Please don’t schedule it on the Thursday that the United States has Thanksgiving. 2019 was a year where a lot of fans had to spend time away from family (that already may not share the love of pool) on a major holiday.
- Please find a way to add more cellular service repeaters to have cell coverage inside. If the issue is restreamers with phones, then have the ushers take care of that. There’s no reason to have us not be able to leave the building for 4 to 5 hours other than to a crowded smoking area to hope to be able to receive phone calls or text messages that have been delayed for hours. This is even more important when scheduling over a holiday when it is nice to text back to family.
- Please find a way to add the coverage to people staying at the hotel and are not able to attend due to sickness or other issues. Adding more viewers that are contained in a single hotel shouldn’t be too much of a draw from your subscriptions. But sometimes people that have tickets that are in the hotel get sick or can’t make the first matches for various reasons. Embedding the matches onto the hotel TV channels let’s you place posters/signs/advertisements in the elevators, pool areas, and lobbies to help build the fanbase for other visitors staying at the hotel coincidentally as well.
