A glaring, and over-looked, fact was a pre-tournament interview with Mark Wilson, in-front of the crowd and in front of the players, where he was asked if anything was changed in preparing for this year's MC....

Mark's answer was: "We're just going to try not to suck this year."

I don't think they sucked last year, but even if that's what you gathered... leaving your team with "images of sucking" is not very wise.... particularly because 4 of the 5 players on the US team played on last year's team.. They should be left with images of being the kings of the pool-world that they are.

Mark goes on to give a more-serious answer to the second question, which should've been his answer to the first question.

Match 1

Game 1
America had a golden opportunity because Neils Feijen held back on his stroke on a touchy, jacked up shot and gave Sky Woodward ball-in-hand.
Sky got out of line on the 7-ball (table speed issue?) and couldn't get out. He tried playing safe but left Neils a carom on the 9.
E-1 / US-0

Game 2
Shane VanBoening broke but had no shot on the 2 and pushed. Albin Ouschan won a safety battle and went on to run out.
E-2 / US-0

Game 3
Jayson Shaw broke and ran out. Mike DeChaine never got to the table.
E-3 / US-0

Game 4
Justin Bergman broke perfectly and made three balls but got a bad roll on the 3-ball and was forced to play a safety. Darren Appleton kicked at the 3-ball and left Justin wide open. Justin runs out.
E-3 / US-1

Game 5
Mark Gray broke and played safe on the 1-ball. After a safety battle, Rodney Morris went-for a difficult shot on the 1-ball, missed and left Gray a shot. Gray ran out.
E-4 / US-1

Game 6
Sky Woodward breaks in the 1-ball and 4 ball but the 6 rolls in the way of a clear shot on the 2-ball. Sky cuts the 2-ball in but also goes way-long on position for the 3-ball and still seems to be having trouble with the speed of the table. Sky comes with a tough shot on the 3-ball and runs out. Neils Feijen never got to the table.
E-4 / US-2

Game 7
Albin Ouschan broke in the 1-ball and played safe on the 2-ball. Shane VanBoening, while being sharked by obnoxious Euro-fans, missed a cut on the 2-ball. Albin makes the 2-ball but gets bad on the 3-ball. A safety battle on the 3-ball winds up with Albin scratching. Shane then missed a very makeable 4-ball, which resulted in the fans going nuts. - Albin runs out.

======

Other than game 7 maybe..... "sucking" (as seems to be a popular term in the pool-world), was not a factor. Table speed, unruly fans, Shane-under-performing and plain-old bad luck were the causes of losing match one.

Oh john, your so smart. You should do this for every match ever played. I'm sure so many people are interested.

The US team are pros. Nobody who isn't themselves a pro, should say that they "suck". They were outplayed by the Europeans. It's as simple as that, and no amount of excuses will ever change that fact. I hope they play better next year, because this year was not as fun to watch as it could have been.

Oh goody. More colors!

Snip.

Guys, this has already been hashed out. Mark was referencing the Cubs manager Joe Madden when he said the "try not to suck" line. Mark, if you don't know, is a huge base ball fan. Yes in England no one got the joke, it might have been in poor taste, but if you look at the quoted article below, you will get where Mark was trying to come from.

Below is the excerpt from an article about the moment when Joe Madden used the line.

It was back in January when the slogan started to take shape as a fan asked Cubs infielder Javy Baez at Cubs Convention what advice Maddon gave when Baez made his season debut in September 2015:

"Try not to suck," was Baez's answer, prompting an uproar inside the jam-packed Sheraton Grand Chicago ballroom.

"I remember him sitting there in that little office in the old clubhouse," Maddon said, "and he's sitting there right across the desk there and just trying to loosen him up a little bit. I knew about his past - I got to know him; I went to see him down in Puerto Rico a couple years ago - and I just wanted to try and relax him a little bit.

"That's what that's all about. We all, as professionals, one of the main things you do on a daily basis is try not to embarrass yourself. So how do you do that? By trying not to suck.

"Take it with a light heart. ... I want them to just go out there and play like they're in Little League. Like a bunch of kids having a good time. Don't worry about making mistakes."

What surprised me more in that pre-match interview, and I have seen no one mention, was using the words "We deserve to win"...

- Ben

Mark is a big baseball Cardinal. The "suck" answer was imo ,a reference to Cubs manager Joe Maddon wearing a shirt that said the same thing during the season.
It wouldn't surprise me if the players knew he was going to say it.

I didn't know that as - I am not a big baseball fan.

More importantly - did Shane know this?

Delusional disorder, previously called paranoid disorder, is a type of serious mental illness called a "psychosis" in which a person cannot tell what is real from what is imagined. The main feature of this disorder is the presence of delusions, unshakable beliefs in something untrue or not based on reality.

John Disque, you are my favorite poster on AzB since Sam Lambert.

Keep up the good work, you're my role model.

Sincerely,
your biggest fan.

John could you analyze the following picture. In particular I'm trying to make sure I know where everyone's hand is.
