Mosconi Cup

I was just wondering about the Mosconi Cup format. Why is it Team USA vs Team Europe. Isn't it kind of discriminating against the Asian pool players? I would love to see team Phillipines (Efren, Bustamante, Orcollo, Alcano, Pagulayan). I think I just answered my own question. What do you guys think? One more thing, who picks the players for the Mosconi Cup?

i like the idea of europe vs the US vs. Asia....

in Europe there is the the nr 1 in the euro tour rankings who is picked and also the most succesfull players in that year....also the mvp from last years Mosconi Cup

Am I wrong or don't most of the Asian you have listed live in the United States or Canada? I would think that the Mosconi Cup could be a USA vs Europe vs Asia format so long as the team's players are full time residents of the listed country or region.

Kevin I don't think they live full time in the states. I think they come over here because of a lot more tournaments and prize money is significantly higher. Take Mika Immonen for example, he resides in NYC but plays for team Europe almost every Mosconi Cup.

There is (or has been at least, you never know what might be still running next year) at least one international team tournament with teams entered from all over, including European countries, Asia, US etc. IIRC the last one I saw had 2-person teams but I've also seen some 4-person team tournaments in the past.

The Mosconi Cup is run by a British sports promotional company (Matchroom) who set it up deliberately to be an analog of the Ryder Cup in Golf. In the early years almost all the European players were Snooker Pros and it was very much a Snooker vs. Pool event. As it was televised primarily in the UK and Europe this makes sense. Matchroom presumably are quite happy with the format

Also consider that (unless anyone knows otherwise) it will not be broadcast live anywhere in the USA, despite team USA being victorious most years.
