Anybody know what cue Mosconi played with? I was watching him just now on ESPN2 and was curious. He was clearly the best player of the guys they had on the show (Lassiter, Fats, Moore, Crane, etc.). Willie would do fine on todays pro tour but the other guys wouldn't win an amateur event. Too bad we will never know if Mosconi could even touch Efren. My opinion is no, but I have not seen Mr. Mosconi play enough to make that call for sure. What do you guys think? Thanks.

I believe mosconi played with a rambow, then a balabushka. BTW, what you saw on ESPN is not representative of his best game. You are watching him near his 70's and after he suffered a stroke. Give Efren a stroke and 30 more years and see how sharp he looks.

The sad thing is that for a long time Willie would just play with a house cue. He qualified for the national tournament (when you had to qualify) picking sticks out of the rack. When he went to Chicago for the nationals he had Rambow "cut" him a stick. So his first cue was a quicky customized rambow. Kinda sad when I look at my growing cue collection compared to Willie beating great players with an old house stick. :(

That just Go's to show you it doesn"t matter how much a cue cost, A good player can play with anything!

God yes, go cut a switch from a tree, you'd have a better chance.

A 'switch' is a large twig for you non-Southerners.

Older Meucci's can be pretty good... but the newer ones have the consistency of a wet noodle.

There is no question that house cues in the top rooms in the '30's, Allingers, kling&allen, bensinger's etc.... were better than any meucci.;-)

YUP! Those shafts were tops.

a rambow 57 inch cue was willie's choice. he said "a short cue is more accurate, than the standard 58". as far as mosconi being clearly the best out of all of the 8, WRONG! for straight pool, mosconi wiped the floor with them, but as far as 9-ball, he was so-so at best! luther was a much better 9-ball player, and so was jimmy moore. and for muecci, the most akward balanced cue in the world, cheap ferruels, and horrible playability, real shit, pardon my french.

Methinks thou doth fish...

Those guys were top-notch players and would all be competitive in today's pro-ranks.

What can Efren do that Mosconi couldn't do? Mosconi ran hundreds of balls on 5 x 10s with 4 inch + pockets when they didn't even have air conditioning. I did see him play a lot years ago and the game could not be played better. His cue, as long as I ever knew him was a Balabushka. I had a Bushka the same model he had. He told me a guy in Atlantic city wanted to buy his cue. He said," If you want to sell that cue, let me sell it to the guy and I will tell him it was one of my cues and he will pay through the nose for it, we can split the money". He could be a pretty sleazy guy.

Hang out in the repair shop these days, you'll see. :D

wow, I own repair shop And I own a few Meucci's. Now, I'm not trying to get into an argument over this , but, you would have to have a stroke to play with a Meucci. That being said, lot of the tour players have and would play with a Meucci if it were'nt for there sponsers. The wip in theses cues(i find) allows me to aplly any spin I want without having to crush the CB. Alot of our top players around here like Garry Hauck & Benny "the jet" Onyschuck play with the old style Meucci. I think Meucci went down hill when they started to be like Preditor and making the stiffer shaft.

You will see Meucci's new ferrules soon.
Resin inlays too.
Actually, the whip on their shafts I think appeals more to those who do not have a good stroke. It doesn't take much to juice the rock with a whippy shaft since it stays on the ball longer.
Meucci went down hill when Bob wanted to sell more cues. More cues=less quality. Their taper is still the same.

I find the whip harder to play for the lesser player due to they cant hit a straight shot on or off the rail. I will agree with the production end of it. The 2 cues I use are older ones. My player was made in "83" and the other 2 I own were made in the early 90's. I find the easier you have to shoot the more better your outcome on shape and playability. I order, on average, 4-5 new Meucci's a year for my customers, Red Dots, Black Dots, and originals. The only ones I dont the customers sell are the originals. Meucci is a very high valued cue around these parts.

Where is it?

I believe that the Glenn family in Phoenix added "Willies" Rambow to their collection...
not sure what the players where using at the Legends event.
Luther used a Balabushka for years and Jimmy Moore liked a Tad...Joe Balsis used a Paradise for quite a while and went to a Tad around 1970?
