Last year I ordered from Schmelke. some mop dots for my cues. They were very good. Recently reordered and the ones I received were thinner than last year and when I inquired they said that was what they were stocking now.
These dots are about 100/1000's thick and makes installing them leave no margin of error when drilling a hole for them especially in the foream where the radius of the cue is greater than on the butt.
I'm guessing that my previous supply was about about about 150/ 1000's.
Would like to get some thicker dots if possible.
Any thoughts on this

Weegee, it would not be common for them to be even .100" thick. Most of the ones that I have are about .075". They will not be too thin when you turn down the cue. The cue should only be .010" to .020" over size when you inlay them and the MOP should be proud of the surface. It may be an issue if the dots where .550" in diameter maybe.

Mother-of-pearl is the lining of a shell and as such is very thin. To make it thicker many craftsman shale it and re-glue it back together in thicker sheets. Actually, commercially made .100 thick dots would be exceptionally thick as usually they are .050 or .080 thick. Were the thicker ones from Schmelke real MOP or were the cast polyester?

A suggestion would be for you to bore a little deeper and double up on the inlays.
