I ran into Mountain Man in Peoria. This is the third time in 13 or 14 years I ran into this highly successfull Roadie. He has endless list of his victims on the Green felt.Besides playing good pool he is a good story teller and a nice man.I always liked about his savy in managing his money that was won on the Greenfelt. He is a young man but has severe health problems and can`t play pool anymore. During this meeting I had a picture taken with this great Roadie.I may not see him anymore. Finally I learned his true first and last name but I do not want to anounce it on the internet ( IRS might be reading this).
Mountain Man,it was pleasure and honor to have met you.

TED HARRIS and Leonard Bludworth may add few stories about the `Mountain Man``

Which Mountian Man?

From what I can tell - There are more "Mountian Men" than Mountians. We have one here in St. Louis, but that is Arty Clemens (AJ), (Critter) from Bloomington IN.

The one I know is Steve Edwards. He lived in the Hamilton Ohio area for a while. I took him on the road once and he busted me backing him against the young (16 year old) Johnny Archer! No one knew Johnny then but I knew by the time the session was over that he was going to be a champion. lol

One of the funniest things I ever had a pool player tell me came from Mountain Man. He claimed his parents had a Casino in Reno. Later in the conversation he let it slip that they had 12 slot machines! I told him that the gas stations had more than that! He said they had a casino license to operate them so it was a Casino. Hard to argue with that logic!

just more hot air!

Yes. Steve is the Mountain Man that most people have had dealings with. I ran into him 3 or 4 times in the Carolinas back in the seventies and eighties. He was very good at small time hustling. Let you get forty or fifty ahead, and then his partner would try to get a couple of side bets and Steve would try to raise the bet and then his play would start to improve. When I played him, I was trying to stall and he was doing the same thing. He would get a spot shot and try to two rail it and pretend it was luck. I wondered how he played for big money. By the way Sherm. You can get rich running a dozen slot machines......

The Mountain Man I am talking about has 7-9 long,Gray, unkempt beard and wears cloths that are not necessarily clean all the time.

I think that's Eddie. He was in the Carolinas and Tn. for a while in the late 80s to early 90s. Last I saw him, he was in West Virginia.

That sounds like the one that I first mentioned a while back that got all this mountain man conversation started.

The only "Mountain Man" I have heard about is an old-school player from the Carolinas named "Steve." He's a bar-box specialist, and what a lot of folks may not know is that he favored the big cue ball. He's from the era of Bucky Bell, another oldie, but goodie! :p
