Movin' on up! What to do with tournaments..

Tomorrow, my hangout will have 4 50c/rack diamond barboxes put in to replace the old Valleys. After years of waiting, I made this happen on my own. I figured it would be an investment that would pay for itself and will ultimately help my game.

My question is this..

I'm thinking about a few different tournaments, each one being a monthly. Could end up doing only 2 a month - my preferences would be the league tournament and banks(of course).

1) A monthly tournament for players that play league out of there(or just for league members?) - handicapped. Considering doing full APA races, but worry about time overruns and am trying to think of a way to shorten those.

2) A 9b banks tournament, $10 entry probably - most tournaments around here are just $5. Wouldn't mind doing $20, but not sure how many would go for that.

3) A monthly open tournament

4) Maybe a monthly break contest? BNR contest? $5 entry, 75% pays out, 25% rolls to next week.

For the payouts, I was also thinking of a few things..

1) Cash payouts

2) Prizes mixed in - such as a $25 gift card to the good pizza place next door, gift card for the good sandwich place down the street - trying to keep it local, mostly(along the boulevard). If there's a strong turnout, maybe a couple of tickets to a basketball game or something. I may be able to get a discount from those places on the cards.

3) Prize options - ie, take $80 cash or a $100 gift card(I think I can get them at Costco for about $80 or so)

May have a mix, so first could be a decent option, or the lower places could get $10 cards or something.

If I cut it down to only one monthly tournament, I may be able to add even more. I'll see what the results are from the tables after the first month or two.

I wouldn't do anything with gift cards.

Hold a monthly or bi-weekly tournament:
9-ball or 8-ball race to 3
Alternate break
$10-20 buy in

You will get at least 10 players with that. Advertise and you will get more.

My idea with the league player tournament would be to reward people for playing out of there(and encourage more). I'd like to see everybody getting involved, not just having a few of the stronger players showing up and then a bunch of non-regulars that simply show up to try heisting the tournament and not spend a penny. The gift cards aren't too bad, because the place is in a good area with some really good food that I may be able to get discounts for cards. Last night, I was explaining the idea to a friend, which is how the cash/card option came up. I said that if it didn't work out, I'd just end up with a couple hundred in cards that I'd end up using myself.

This is in a poolhall? How I long for the days of 50 centers. Better yet a quarter.

It's a bar. They had 3 25c tables and 1 50c table(couldn't find a replacement 25c mechanism years ago). It was sold after decades of ownership back in October and they had the tables open most of the time to attract customers. I've been wanting to get diamonds in the area for a while(in a bit of a diamond void there), so the owner offered me a deal if I financed them while he continued to spend money sprucing the place up a bit. My friends and I can't stand the idea of 75c pool, so I insisted on keeping them at 50c/rack. We will probably offer hourly rates to players, too, so they don't have to keep feeding the table. The players will take care of the bar and I'll take care of the players. It should work out pretty well, if my estimates are correct. Like I said, though, we'll see after a couple of months.
