So I got this cue no the cheap side of the world. When I purchased it had plans on repairing it and using it as a break cue. Long story, but half way to sanding down the wrap, the damage completed tore out. Basic made a small whole all the way, so it exposed the wood. It was full of rot in that area. Was not really planning to re-wrap the cue, but now that no choice. Think I might even go leather now that I have a choice. Here's some pictures of the process.

How I got the cue. Plus it had a ton of light dents it in. All of them easily sanded out with 600g paper.

unless you do it yourself just for the fun of it.
and then maybe not.

When I got the cue, I hit a couple balls with it no tip and it just shattered the ferrell.. The joint looked like it had never been cleaned. After cleaning it the cue rolled so much straighter and screwed together much easier.

So, I have a lathe at the house and started working on it the other day. Just about got the staff done, all I need to do is add tip, polish and wax.

Totally agree, I only paid 100 for the cue. I put a Juma and a tip on it, some sandpaper plus some finishes I already have. I might be into the cue for 130 tops. Plus maybe 6 hours of my free time. Which I find it fun to repairs cues. But now I have to rap it....

It also look like a fishing pole with a 5 pound bass on it, cleaning the joint and working that out. I'm about 95% straight now.

Cool hobby. Looks like fun. I enjoy saving items too. Let me know how straight you get her. I guy I used to play with hung warped shafts off two strings, hump side up. I believe he also used mist / moisture to help the wood move back. He used to get banana shaped shafts playable and almost dead straight.

Ok, just doing some finishes tonight. 2 apocy, 4 ca and another 4 clear. Still need to finish sand and polish but this is what it's looking like now.
What type of wrap does everyone think would look good on this cue. I was thinking black pebble or shark. Really kind of want to keep it tame, no ostrich, Cayman or horned lizard.
Thanks for the comments.

Hey, c'mon now. They cured their shaft wood at least a month whether it needed it or not. ;) The old originals often had really good shafts. Some of their mid-90's/early 00's stuff was absolutely horrible. Buddy of mine had one that warped in a month. Not shitting you.

It's done....need to clean the seam glue up a little more, once it dries. I always put the seam on the other side of the builder's mark.
