Musing on the 8 ball break

In the last two years I have noticed that the more defensive my break the higher chance that I win the game.

Of course I also have a much lower RO percentage than last year.

In the last two years I have noticed that the more defensive my break the higher chance that I win the game.

Of course I also have a much lower RO percentage than last year.

I would say could be right if you know how to not give a shot. I have won more games when the incomer didn't have a shot after the break than not. ....however.....as a kid playing 8 ball on bar tables I used to use Top Spin and break through the rack as long as something went which was often I at least had a choice and nearly always played the first defensive shot. That won me a lot of games, more than anything else.

It is always better to walk away from the table after playing safe than it is after missing a shot.

What context is the skill level and rule set? BCA rules do not box you in like APA if you make a ball on the break. Making the 8-ball on the break in the APA rewards you with a win, whereas its just gets spotted in BCA.
