My 1st Sneaky Pete...

Has anyone ever used a clear coat finish from DEFT? My father is a wood worker and has used it as a clear coat and suggested it. I applied it to my jump cue by rubbing it on and it was completed about 4 weeks ago. It has held up after much use. I'm getting ready to pour it into a smal spray bottle and try applying it that way and see if it's easier or cosmetically better. The current finish is fine, just needs some buffing, plus the wood had a few swirl marks from the sand paper that I didn't get out completely.

Thanks,
Zim

Never used DEFT. The first 3 or 4 cues I made were finished with Krylon crystal clear enamel. Then I switched over to a automotive lacquer and sprayed it with one of those aerosol sprayers that you get from the hardware store. They actually work pretty well and will get you by untill you can get a compressor and a spray setup. I have a HVLP system and a gravity feed gun.

Is something like this what you're talking about Murray? http://www.lowes.com/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=221115-28309-270G&pad=true
I was actually thinking about buying a smaller version of this one, but wasn't sure what kind of air tank system to go with it, suggestions?
Until I buy something like this, I was just going to use a spray bottle (similar to a glass cleaner bottle)
Thanks,
Zim

That gun is similar. Mine is quite a bit more expensive but it is part of a system. If you are going to use automotive stuff then it would probably be fine. Any decent air compressor should run it. Just get the largest one that you can afford and have room for. Don't forget about air filters and dryers.

Here is the little sprayer I was talking about. You should give one a try. They would work much better than a spray bottle.

Well, I've received some feedback on my 1st cue from ......... Ray Schuler, and a few other players

Zim

That's impressive. Did you ask him if they had pool in heaven?

Not himself! The guy making cues under Ray. All the cues said Ray Schuler on them!

I'll find this product somewhere and get it. What kind of clearcoat would work the best? I've heard PPG is good, but there's also a couple other clearcoats to use, suggestions??

According to this, ]"The power unit is disposable and will spray up to 16 oz (473 ml) of paint or other liquids. The glass jar will hold up to 6 oz (177 ml). The Preval Spray Gun is ozone friendly!"[ So how long will this last, how many cues will it spray? Do I need to buy a handfull of the power unit or spray gun? I'm not sure how this would be better than this... http://www.lowes.com/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=221117-28309-210G

Thanks for your help!

The real spray gun is the best way to go. I was under the impression that you did not have a compressor. YOU MUST HAVE A AIR FILTER AND AIR DRYER. If you are going to spray a catalyzed automotive clear then buy the hardner in as small of quantity as you can. Most are available in half pint size. The shelf life of the hardner is ony a couple of weeks once you open it. You will need to practice spraying. Put on too heavy of coat or too many coats in a short time and your cue will have acne.

You're correct, I don't have an air compressor, air filter or air dryer. I guess for now the aerasol spray can would be more efficient, correct?
Thanks for all your help Murry, Purdman and everyone else.
