Can anyone tell me about this cue. when did Richard make it? Why is it not like any Adam that I have ever seen? Is it very rare?

The tip is not pictured, but it may have a short ferrule. If so, it may be a billiard cue. Adam made many butterfly spliced cues with joint pin in the shaft. Richard Helmstetter's company built many cues and many models. I have seen "prototypes" from him with subtle differences that were refined before production. Hopefully you have something rare there. Good luck with your research.
 
No, Richard did not build it himself. It is a late 70's or early 80's cue.
What does the sticker say? not the one with the weight spec, but the other one. it should say something like S/T-6 on it.
