My BCA experence

breakup

I was able to meet rackmsuckr, Eydie & Bob Romano, Vagabond, Rip, Girlwon1 Rpm and get reacquainted with Jack Justis. It’s always great to put faces with names. A bunch of cool people on this forum.

As for my tournament play I went 1-2 BBQ in the open. My second opponent was a 10 year old boy. Now I could (and should) make up a string of excuses for what happened but the fact was he just beat me. Even at his young age he had enough class to refrain from strutting around chanting “Who's Your Daddy” after the match. Give him another 10 years and Willie may have a new partner. Even though I lost, my play was in fact so strong that after that match I got a personal invitation from BCA Pool Leagues management to enter the Grand Master event, unfortunately I had a scheduling conflict with a boatload of Budweisers and could not compete in that event.

One evening they were doing a charity event “Challenge the Stars” benefits to go to the billiard education foundation. I played Jeanette Lee. Since I didn’t have a cue with me she most graciously allowed me to use hers. All I had to put up for collateral was my life if it were damaged in any way. I broke and apparently she hated seeing me hold her cue so much she ran out so I wouldn’t get to touch it again ( I don’t blame her a bit). She did remember the epic match with Willie, with Efren with mthornto on the TV table at DCC… her rendition was much more abbreviated than Willie’s however I didn’t get the impression she considered it the match of the century as Willie would have us believe. It was a pleasure to meet her, I understand she contributes to a wide variety of charitable causes.

The BCAPL event is always a fun time. Tons of pool related things to do, seeing old friends and meeting new ones. The Diamond Smart tables played great and for the first time I heard no complaints about the refs. I made a point of watching and I saw nothing but good calls. I remember years ago you didn’t want to call a ref because you were almost guaranteed to get a bad call. That’s all changed from what I could see. Of course you can’t always make everyone happy it has always been a thankless job but from my little perspective I thought they did a fine job.

Thanks to the BCAPL for putting on a super event, just getting bigger and better all the time.

Cheers

breakup,
Truce, just long enough to say thanks for the rundown. Sounds like a great trip. It irks me to say I always respect the players that will plunk down some cash for a charitable cause - way to go.

Now back to reality; I am truly sorry I wasn't there for your match with the 10 year old. Don't worry though, next year he'll be 11 and you couldn't possibly lose to an 11 year old...could you????

To clarify your mistaken assertion; I never called the DCC match "The Match of the Century" - but maybe my student...errr...partner Efren did, and now that you bring it up, it DOES have a nice ring to it. I suspect JL is just a sore loser, it must sting to get beaten unmercifully in front of millions (??) of viewers (you'll know how it feels soon).

Don't feel bad. I was at the ACS Nationals and there was a little red haired kid from AZ. He was only a bit taller than his cue case. If he had a table to run......you didn't need to chalk your stick.

As you say, in another 10 years who knows where we'll see him?
