i've been playing for about a year and a half.up until sunday i've only competed in bar pool leagues.
i've caught the 9' bug and have been going to our local pool hall to practice.
sunday night i decided to enter a tourney.i lost but liked it.
they had one last night and entered it as well.they made my handicap a 5.i won my first match, and lost the next 2.the 2nd match was against a 6.he beat me 6-4 and went on to win the whole thing.

i go into the place tonight and the 6 is there.i get a table and he asks if i want to play some and split the table time. i said sure.
i jump out to a 3-1 lead.i started getting a feeling.i'm racking and he says "i'd shoot better if we were playing for money".
i knew it.

i was compelled to say yes but said nah. i'm not that good and i don't have that much money on me.

i felt like a half a sissy.

so i said how bout winner pays table time. he says ok,how many games?i say race to ten.
i beat him 10-7.
am i a friggin hustler or what?lol.

ummmmmmm NO

Beating someone outa table time is hardly hustling.

hustling is when your playing for what people would call serious money, be it 50$ a set or a couple hundred a set, and your not playing your true speed yet your always winning by a game or two, and giving your opponent the false belief he has a chance to win, when if you was really playing straight up, you would crush the guy.

Wait...

You hustled him into you paying for the table, or was that just posted wrong?

But yea, I agree with Storm. That's not hustling. Hustling is making your opponent feel like you got lucky, and that they are still better than you, even after your up 2 grand on them.

i didn't hustle anyone.i was being sarcastic.

"my big night of gambling"

the first time i'm presented with an offer to gamble and all i can muster up the balls to do is play for table time.

i thought it was painfully obvious.

start small ifyou want to gamble

If you are interested in gambling start well within your comfort level. It is silly to bet big when you are just starting gambling and have a certain part of your anatomy so puckered that you can't bend over to get into your stance.

Good to start small and be slow to go up if you don't know the other player too. Many a would be hustler has came out on the short end of the stick by losing too much setting up the kill.

Somebody I used to know never hustled fish in his drinking days but he was hell on the would be hustlers. He would cheerfully stall just a little less than they were and take the small pots with them slowly talking him into bigger and bigger bets. Once the bet was right and the hustler moved in for the kill the hustler found that they were overmatched more than nine times out of ten. If the hustler really was better the first game or two was on his money already won and there was time to bail.

Nit is a name that hustlers have for players that won't hang with a bad match. On the other hand no good hustler, road player, or gambler won't run like hell when he is overmatched and can't change the spot. You have to bet smart and not let ego and/or outside pressure keep you in a bad match up. The other guy's goal is to get your money, many feel any way they can is fine, your goal is to keep your money, any way you can short of cheating is fine.

HAVOC -

I got your humor when I read your initial post ... I think the "LOL" at the end of your statement about being a hustler gave away the sarcastic tone.
Congrats on winning ... it always feels good no matter what your playing for.

thanks 9ballbust.i thought the lol gave it away too.

i feel good that i hung with him better.if he(which i think he did) laid off
the 1st few, we tied.if not i beat him without my handicap.

I say stick with the guy and gamble it up. The guy sounds like a loser if he says "I'd shoot better for money." I just don't see an experienced gambler ever saying that. Sounds like he was making excuses... That is a sure sign of weakness.

Havoc it's okay man.. Pool players aren't notorious for being very intellectual beings.
Congrats. Yes.. Yes you most deffinetly are a certified hustler - just PM me with your Mailing information and I will send you your plaque and "Honk if you Hustle" bumper-sticker.

P.S; wana play some?

i'm 37,he might be 25-26.
he is for sure a way better player than me.
i heard someone asking what his ranking was and he said a 6.the guy said "you a 6?" he said"i've been off a long time."

i've seen him beat a guy named dave cherry, whom at one time was a very good player.dave, from what i'm told beat eva mattaya in an exh. and rempe.don't know if rempe was a tourney or an exh.

dave stated suffering from seizures and quit playing for about 13 yrs. and has just started playing again.how much of his game he's lost,i don't know, but this kid is a decent shot.

i was in the fight game for alot of years, and there is always a hustle going on there.not for money, but for easier fights,or sparring sessions.so i've seen it before.

when i jumped out 3 ahead,i was happy until he said, how many games have you won in a row?

i don't think he's an exp. hustler,or road warrior.i just think he saw me as an somewhat easy mark.

Sounds like you had fun, and a good night... I give you a Thumbs Up as you were not out of control.

Dang, I always knew I was doing something wrong!

Gerry thanks!
Wish somebody would have told me that a long time ago. It was always purely accidental when I finished the night with a wad of somebody else's money. :D :D :D
