My Butt is Warped...

DaHo Player

I have a Hubler basic solid butt cue I use as my break cue. The problem is that the butt has warped. The shaft is straight as an arrow...

I know how to straighten shafts, but have never had a butt go bad before - except my own a few times...

Any 'secret' expert techniques out there to get your butt back in shape?

If the butt is indeed one solid piece of wood then i can cut it for you and make it a jump-break cue. That will help to straighten it out somewhat.

Tony,

Well, I am not sure it this works for all cases, but, with the cue put together, I roll it on the table and I find the warped spot. I put it up, where you can see light under it on the cloth, lift the butt and stroke the shaft from the tip back, bending it against the warped area.

And, as the old joke on instructions for Polish 'relief' goes, "repeat if necessary"... :p

So, you are saying that you could basically cut and joint it, and make it straighter in the process? That might be an option if am gettingI get it right.

What I had planned on doing was finding the high/warped spot and with the ends suppended, and apply a constant center weight of some sort on the high spot. I have never had a warped butt before so I don't know if that would work or not. I was hoping there was some other, more 'magical' technique.

It's not that big of a deal. It's just the long term basic model and the shafts are interchangable with all my other cues.

I have had the cue for a long time and would rather heal it if possible. I have a number of other cues I could use, but like the simple lines and its been an old friend...

Check the previous posts on this subject I have outlined in great detail a technique that works well.

How warped is it? Does it affect your breaking? If it doesn't bother your breaking and you are comfortable with it, then ----. I would just play with it.

Would you please supply the link for your previous post - it sounds interesting but I couldn't locate it.

Thanks, Dave
