Hi,
I just finished my first cue about a week ago, so i thought i should post a picture. I wanted to thank everyone in the forum for all the helpfull information.
Without you it would have been alot harder and i would have had alot more mistakes, mishaps, and problems.
Thanks,
Owen

Owen,

How about telling us more about the cue and why you made certain decisions in it's construction. I know I'd be interested since I've entertained thoughts about trying my hand at making my own cue some day.

Hey,
Sliprock, I like the hit and some guys i respect as good shooters in my poolhall also like the way it hits.
Canadian Cue, Thanks Eh.
Zim, Thanks, I'm Keeping it. I like the way it hits and i think i have to keep it. It's the first one.
Terry, The cue is made of cocobolo and birdseye maple. I bought both from Chris Hightower. I have bought other birdseye from other places that was very nice. It had lots of birseye, but was very dark. The birdseye i got from Chris had less but was lighter in color, and i liked that better for contrast in this cue. The cue has a 5/16-14 joint screw. I used a 3" 3/8-10 aluminium rod for the A joint. I used a phenolic butt cap and joint. For the cocobolo i tried to line up the grain on all the rings and from the but sleeve and the forearm. I also used a 3" stainless steel Weight bolt. The finish is Devcon 5 min. epoxy and then super glue. I would like to use auto clearcoat but am not setup for that yet.
Thanks for the response, any criticism good or bad would be appreciated.

Looks pretty alright to me, nice figure & color combination. I love the cocobolo Myself, If It were'nt for the the dust, probably use It more often. Keep up up the good work.

Greg

Greg thanks,
I really like cocobolo. The dust hasn't bothered me yet, but i use a resporator when cutting and sanding it.
Owen

Thanks Chris,
Made it with your lathe and your wood. Thanks for the equipment and the support.

Your very welcome Owen, It is a nice looking cue by the way, looks alot better then My first.

The coco did'nt bother me at first either, but started to notice a slight effect from it as time went on, and using It more often. Allergies mostly, The dust just seems to hide in all the cracks of the shop no matter how hard you try to filter and clean It up. I usually wear a mask when tapering, but most of the rest of the time I am exposed unfortunatly. I am going to dedicate a small room to tapering one of these days, so the rest of the space is not open to It. Also going to enclose the tapering machine in plexi cabinet with filtration setup to cut down on the overspray of dust.

Which lathe do you have? Deluxe, Mid-Size?

Zim

It looks great for a first cue imo. If I ever try my hand at it mine will be similar in design and I can only hope it looks half as good. Congratulations.

Terry

Owen, The cue looks good! The super glue finish is looking good also. Don't let anyone talk you into selling it! Did you sign it? Has anyone from paradise shot with it? If you want an honest opinion Gene is a good one to have shoot with your cue. Best of luck, Steve D.

Steve,
I didn't know you were part of this forum. I'm not going to sell it, it's the first one can't do that. No signature, still figuring that part out. What do you use?
and when? Everyone from paradise has shot with it. All that did liked it. Gene liked it alot. Thanks glad you like it.
Hey i was wondering if you still have and use your old pantomill since getting the cnc setup and if your willing to part with it. I wouldn't mind getting some diamonds in my butt sleeves. Let me know either way.
Thanks again,
Owen

Owen, I have to get over to paradise and take a few hits with your first cue! Isn't it a great feeling hitting with your first cue. I just joined this forum, been watching for a few months. I'll let you know if I'm going to sell the inlay machine, if not I might know of a pantograph from a cue builder for sale in new york. Congratulations and best of luck, as always let me know if you need anything, except for the source for my g-10 pins!
Oh and as for the signature I put it on just before I spray the clearcoat. You might have to put it on between sealer coats, because I'm pretty sure that the super glue finish would smear it.
