My first try at making a case

Your stitches appear very uniform, so I'm impressed. Great first case.

I use an awl and 2 needles to sew the case by hand so it took a while to sew but for my first time working with leather I think it turned out pretty good. I dont like the rivets I used I wont use them again when they were set properly they look bad but I have a 1x2 in the works that wont have any rivets or at least not this type of rivet. Thank you all for the kind words I may have a few for sale in a couple of weeks if anyone is interested.

Chaz I am glad to hear you will have some pics soon.
Filluptieu I did notice the leather was thinner on the edges of the cut I got but this case came from the center so it may thicker than 8oz. It is a pain to work with sometimes but I think it makes a great case. JB I tried sanding with different grits on a spare piece of leather but it seemed to get furrier looking. Was I using the wrong grit or should I sand longer? Thanks everyone for the kind words.

you can skive the leather. where are you getting this leather at? a live oak is usually pretty good to work with. Its clean on both sides

if it gets furry looking you can still burnish it smooth. i have a burnishing wheel hooked up to a power drill so i can burnish and not have to push too hard on the leather. plus its easier ). use gum tragacanth for a good finish but just wetting it will help if u have to do it that way. jb may have some alternative choices but thats what ive been using.

im poor still.... i just use a old piece of jean and wet it then apply the edge kote. Chaz can you post up a picture of the edge with gum tragacanth

how did you stitch that up? glued and hand sewn, or machine sewn?
stitching looks good for your first case...JS
