Hello. I just got my sneaky back from James White last week. I had some changes done to the cue. It was a true sneaky but I had collars added to the joint and I had a 1.5 inch delrin butt cap with the JMW logo added. Let me know what you think.

Very nice cue. James White is a master cuemaker.

Just curious though: if you had the phenolic joint and the delrin buttcap added, would I be correct in assuming that this was a straight-up sneaky with no frills at all?

Why would you want to change that? (just asking)

Not a problem. It looked too plain for my taste. I also wanted to reinforce the joint. I had a TS sneaky where cracks developed and I did not want that to happen to this cue. Then I decided to add the buttcap since I was changing it from a true sneaky.

I'm with Hurly. I like a simple, no frills sneaky myself. And Han knows how much I LOVE Mottey and White.

But this is a pretty cue and remember Han! Its your cue so your opinion is all that matters! You don't need to answer to Hurly or anyone else for that matter.

Not a problem at all, I was fishing for opinions. As everyone already knows you are a Mottey/ White freak. I am the same way. That shop can almost do no wrong. They are definitely on the next custom purchase list when I get my bonus.

You do know he started not too long ago, right? He's no virgin for sure, but c'mon, a MASTER???? Thats funny! While I've never held one in my hands, I'm sure they are nice, and I'd like to try one for myself sometime...But to call the guy a MASTER puts him in the class of Scruggs, Szamboti, etc. I'm sure he makes a nice cue, but I wouldn't call the guy a master, even having been mentored by Paul Mottey. Again, I'm sure his cues are nice, I just don't believe he's up to THAT caliber yet

Nice job jackass, a guy comes on here with a nice cue just showing everyone a couple changes made to it and you go and shit talk his cue for absolutely no reason:mad:

Good choice

I also like the collars and the butt cap, with out it, it's just too plain for my taste. It becomes TOO sneaky for me. If I may ask, what is the waiting period for a cue?

Thanks
Brian

I waited only 2 weeks to get the work done once the cue was received at the shop. I bought the cue on the secondary market and then had the changes made, I believe Jame's wait time is 1 year while Paul's is 1.5 yrs, but not 100% certain. I asked but I did not write it down, but those numbers are close. The sneakys cannot be ordered unless you order a custom cue.

I did not take his comments as inflammatory towards the cue. Its just his opinion and he is entitled to it. However thank you for the support of the cue and the maker!!!!!

Wtf???

I NEVER said the cue wasn't nice, idiot! I was commenting on what he said about Mr. White being a "master cuemaker". READ the posting BEFORE commenting and making an a$$ of yourself next time, huh? Thanks for the comment anyways  :D

Go back and read the posting again REALLY slow this time, maybe you'll understand what I said this time

Because they weren't meant towards the cue, it looks nice. Maybe you noticed I said, MULTIPLE TIMES, that he makes a NICE cue...I just wouldn't put him into the same category as a Tim Scruggs yet. And yes, that definitely is my opinion, and yes, I'm entitled to it, thanks for noting that.

imo it doesn't take time to be a master at something, just knowledge and execution.....you can argue both FOR Jim.

This JMW cue is probably a great cue to play with. I just received a very nice JMW cue, and from the prices that his cues are selling for he should be a master. I also have two Paul Mottey cues and there doesn't seem to be much difference in workmanship. The JMW is as nice if not nicer. I like the ring tailed lizard wraps they use, and the solid ivory joints. I've been using the JMW for the last few days and it really hits great. I was told that a well known professional is very interested in my JMW cue.

Yeah. I know that Jim has only been making cues for a short while (I would say somewhere in the vicinity of 10 years). But I also know that he has excelled in both his craftsmanship/execution and the playability of his cues. Furthermore, he stretches above and beyond and pushes the envelope in terms of design.

Jim is an incredible cuemaker. But then again Duke, I guess you're right. He certainly hasn't proved himself worthy of being compared to someone like Bob Dzuricky (sp?)!

My favorite part of your entire post?

"While I've never held one in my hands, I'm sure they are nice, and I'd like to try one for myself sometime...But to call the guy a MASTER puts him in the class of Scruggs, Szamboti, etc. "

So now, if I'm reading this correctly, and I'm pretty sure I am because I'm not blind or retarded, you're saying that you don't think Jim White's cues are that great though you have never played with one or even held one in your hands. Is that right?

Duke, I've gotta say it. I have NEVER valued your opinion at all as I've always thought of you as uninformed and annoying. Now I can see I was right all along.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you, dukeboy.

James White has excelled and an incredible rate in virtually all aspects of cuemaking. Many of his designs are unique. His contruction techniques make for an incredible looking AND playing cue. And the market seems to be reflecting the true superiority of his work as his prices on the second hand market alone rival that of Tim Scruggs, one of the masters that you have pointed out.

Again, no disrespect but Jim is every bit as good as pharaoh (and a legion of others) make him out to be.

Ouch Brian. You are so carefree in person. You truly have a passion for the Mottey/White shop, and I feel it is justified that you defend them with such passion. I am almost sorry I started this thread, but I like seeing the Mottey's and White's people have, so I felt I should share my cue. To everyone who supports the cue and the cuemaker thank you!!!!
