I spent the last 2 week ends shooting in the Fur Rondy Open 8 and 9 Ball tournaments in Anchorage. The Palace pool hall owners did a good job of keeping it organized and every one was paid as soon as the tournament was over. I think I finished in the 8,9,10 spot in both tournaments. The 8 ball was a race to 5 and the 9 Ball was a race to 7 with double elimination for both. All games were played on 9' Diamond tables. There were about 35 entrants in the "Open" and I lost both of my first matches and shot one of my best and worst matches ever.
My buddy lost the 9 Ball Hot Seat match, but hung in there to take 1st place. His opponent and him played good pool and provided some nail bitter moments. I did hear a few complaining that they lost their match because of bad rolls and their opponent getting lucky. I find that strange as I won by out playing my opponent and I lost because they out played me. There ya have it!
I was the oldest guy in the tournament and left there worn out as I never sleep well in hotels. All in all I had a great time and feel blessed to have competed. I learned a few things about my self, which is good and look forward to the State Tournament in October.
