My New J.Flowers J20-21 cue First Impressions

This is the first cue I have bought in 20 years. I was, and am still satisfied with my beautiful, classic Viking custom F 50, but I wanted to experience a carbon fiber shaft.

This is a classic, beautiful cue.
J.Flowers JF20-21 with 12.5mm tip, 19 oz total weight, carbon fiber shaft.

Zoom in if you can, and look at the absolutely masterful, multi wood and abalone inlay work. This cue in person looks 4 to 5 times the price.

The butt has a 3 segment grip with 2 inlay rings. The grip is much longer than I am used to, but again, very elegant with excellent textured leather.

A Moori medium tip is included. Never played this tip before but so far I really like the hit. The hit has a deeper more organic sound than other CF shafts I have heard. Sounds different, but close to the sound of my maple Viking shaft. Not a playability factor, just an observation. I have a friend with a CF shaft from one of the big brands and it has a much higher pitch like an aluminum baseball bat when contacting the cue ball. I prefer this sound.

The butt of the cue is beautifully finished with a gold JF inlay.

There is clearly a learning curve for me with this shaft after 20 years with my Viking. There is far less need to compensate for throw on longer shots and particularly with more English on the cue ball. Over time I hope this yields more consistent ability to aim the longer cut shots where position play is still important.

As a first time CF shaft owner / operator, I am very pleased.

The only down side is that while the butt and shaft roll perfectly straight apart, there is a very slight warp when the assembled cue is rolled on the table. A variation of about 1/16th of an inch. I had hoped for perfectly straight. That said, there is about that same tiny amount of play in my Viking as well. I just hoped for perfection.

Finally, I know I could have bought a JF cue with the same performance for quite a bit less if I chose one without inlays, but for the beauty of this cue I made the right choice for me.

An extension is available but I didn't need it. The cue also included nice joint protectors as well.

I also purchased a J.Flowers 3x5 blue soft case that I am also very pleased with at a good price.

Last of all, I want to shout out Koinkid here for a VERY fair price, very fast shipping, and answering my questions before my purchase.

Might be able to re-face the joint. Sounds like why it has a roll when assembled. Nice cue.

I agree, it is clearly the joint, and on a brand new cue, I hoped for better. It is certainly not worth sending back to the manufacturer for this, and I don't think warranty work is even readily available for these cues as they are Chinese made. If it were significant I would ask for a replacement or a refund.

My beloved Viking has just about the exact same amount of roll with 1 shaft, but is perfect with the other. I sent it in for warranty a few months ago , along with both shafts, which were quite warped to roll when assembled. It came back much better than it was, but still had just that touch of roll in it. Viking said they re surfaced the joint and matched both shafts up. 1 is perfect, the other has a tiny bit of roll. That said, I suppose, since the manufacturer re faced the joint and matched up both shafts as best they could, a tiny bit of roll must be "within tolerance" for a cue. I am far from an expert on that subject. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How much was it and which retailer was it from?
It was listed in Ebay from Koinkid with an "or best offer" price. I contacted them through their FB page which is called "All About the Game Room" and ask what rheir best offer price would be if I buy direct from them. They gave me a very fair price. Well below retail. They seem to stock all models of the J.Flowers cues. I highly recommend them.

Cool. Troy (koinnkid) posts here sometimes.

Great people!

Nice cue. My friend bought the same one after trying out my J Flowers cue (cheap one without inlays). Personally, I love mine.

WTF does that have to do with this thread??? Everyone on here knows that JF cues are made in China.

Your make assumptions about everyone.

Not everyone know everything that you think you know.

Sure your not qualified by training, or experience to know everything.

If you did you would be threat to Casinos, and Horse racing track.

Alway winner.

As a note, those J Flowers carbon fiber shafts deflect a lot more than other LD carbon fiber shafts, especially the Revo or Ignite, they are more akin to a standard wood lower LD shaft like a Players HXT or early Predator 314s than a newer LD shaft.

Now you know you don't know you can stop posting like you know, you know?

J.Flowers is my brand. It is NOT supposed to be used on cues. It is not supposed to be used for goods sold in the USA without mine and Sterling Gaming's permission. I screwed up when I created it and trusted the partner in China not to abuse the brand but they did.

I just haven't taken the time to take anyone to court over it. As for the quality of the cues, the company that is making them did in fact hire an American cuemaker to help them with their processes. They also had a pretty good taiwanese cuemaker helping them. So from what I have seen the quality is pretty good. Just sucks that they won't honor our agreement when it comes to the brand.

I was very unaware of this. The jflowescues.com site looks very legit, and the person I purchased from is a respected long standing business. The manufacturer should have at least sold the good products (unless the designs are also proprietary) and changed it to their own brand and name.

Honestly, the name had nothing to do with my purchase. I was unaware of the history of the name or person. I actually would have PREFERRED the case NOT have the big logo on it. They could call the cues any name they chose and let their value earn whatever spot the market would give them.

Not a problem and not anything that the resellers are involved with. Just something that bugs me each time I see the name being used. Just a lesson in giving trust without a formal contract.
