My new wood

I recently acquired the Dan Westin that Tro(Mike) had in the for sale section for ages. Once I finally had the extra scratch, he had sold it, but I was lucky to track down the Westin and get in a cash/trade combo. Nobody knows who Dan Westin is, so the cue was incredibly inexpensive for the quality. I'm sure I'll write up more about the cue later, it plays damn sporty. What I wanted to show was the great shaft wood.

Both shafts are to the same length and diameter, but the shaft on the right with nice tight grain is 105 grams while the shaft on the left, it is nicely grained and even too just not as tight, is 135g. It really illustrates the idea that grain count does not equate to weight/density.

Looks like great wood. Ernie Martinez, explained to me that a lot of guys like heavy shafts, but that the tightest straightest grain usually plays best and is not usually the heaviest. I've had both heavy and light shafts play great, and I've had both tight and more space grained shafts play great, so who knows? Pete Tascarella told me you really can't predict what shafts are going to have that magic hit, but that more often he finds the lighter weight shafts to be more lively.

Quite honestly, this cue plays great, feels great, looks great, the finish is superb and best of all, it was inexpensive. Super dark ebony nose(non-cored), beautiful rosewood points(looks like BRW), 2 great shafts that are full and have a nice solid, but not overly stiff hit. I think she is a keeper. She is my new player actually. I'm glad the market is soft and nobody wanted to take a chance on an unknown, otherwise this cue should have sold quickly when Mike first had it for sale.

Here are a few phone pics.

I tried telling everyone that cue was a STEAL for what I was asking for it :)

Glad you finally got it and that you like it.

Mike
