Your cue turned out very nice. It's amazing what a cue maker can do to a well used cue by restoring it back to like new condition.jjr183 said:Hey all,
I just got this baby back from Mike Cochran who brought this vintage piece back to life; it was so old that the original finish was just about completely worn off. When I got it it was in pretty bad shape and Mike even offered to shred it and give me a discount on a new cue as trade. He also says that Tim made this cue before he started working there so it is a good example of his earlier work.
Here is what it needed:
- Re-cored due to a slight taper roll where the forearm met the wrap.
- New butt cap. The original was Delrin with the TS imprinted in the old way.
- New leather wrap to replace the old Irish linen.
- Since the points were a little uneven at the top Mike put new snowmen inlays on the tips. I know some purists may despise this, but they came out really nice.
- The original joint collar rings had to be lathed off and replaced in the original style.
The story on this cue as was told to me is that it sat in some closet for a very long time because the owner died. Someone then bought it off the widow after seeing it for an obscenely low-ball offer. He then sold it to the person I bought it off at SBE a year or two ago and now its back in all it's old glory.
I know some people may argue that I should have taken Mike's offer for a trade, but this cue has real character to it and I thought it deserved the attention and I think the final result proves my point.
Oh yeah, it's just as much a player as any Scruggs I have ever shot with, which is to say the best hit. Period. Enjoy the pic!
