> I really hope no one else has claimed this idea in public, but as far as I know, this is my own creation. My proposed format is as follows. Leave the pockets at 4 1/2 inches, and leave the 1-ball on the spot as it should be,and have a neutral racker use the Sardo, and everyone breaks from dead center,so no one will have the excuse that the side rail power breakers have an advatange. Ideally, the soft break would be an option, but not the one most will choose. Everyone gets 15 breaks, with the caveat that the breaks only count as long as one ball is pocketed. Any additional balls made are yours to keep. All fouls are automatic loss of game,as are all MISSES,whoever runs the most racks wins period. If you want to break them soft fine,if you want to crush them fine, whatever style suits you best and gives you what you feel is the best chance of winning. This style may even take offensive 9-ball to a higher level by forcing people to "create" ways to break clusters, shoot shots that would normally be played safe from, all this with the pressure of knowing your opponent leads in the match 9-7 and you have only 2 breaks left after this rack,so IF you can run out here, you have 2 chances to either tie or win the match, for example. Combinations, banks, incredible stroke shots, things that would appeal to the non-playing average viewer would all be brought into play,so would all the emotions you feel watching other sports, like when someone puts together a 5 or 6 rack run the first time,or has a chance to win the match and dogs their brains out. With commentators like those found in golf or tennis, they can discuss who is "hitting" the balls the best, who seems to be falling apart, who appears to be making a charge, and explanations as to WHY these things take place. Since a 9 on the break would not count as an automatic win,and stays down,it would be a good spot to add some corporate sponsored bonus money, like they give for winning the holeshot in a Supercross race, etc. By all means, share your thoughts, good or bad,Tommy D.
