My possibly previously rejected idea for a new TV format

> I really hope no one else has claimed this idea in public, but as far as I know, this is my own creation. My proposed format is as follows. Leave the pockets at 4 1/2 inches, and leave the 1-ball on the spot as it should be,and have a neutral racker use the Sardo, and everyone breaks from dead center,so no one will have the excuse that the side rail power breakers have an advatange. Ideally, the soft break would be an option, but not the one most will choose. Everyone gets 15 breaks, with the caveat that the breaks only count as long as one ball is pocketed. Any additional balls made are yours to keep. All fouls are automatic loss of game,as are all MISSES,whoever runs the most racks wins period. If you want to break them soft fine,if you want to crush them fine, whatever style suits you best and gives you what you feel is the best chance of winning. This style may even take offensive 9-ball to a higher level by forcing people to "create" ways to break clusters, shoot shots that would normally be played safe from, all this with the pressure of knowing your opponent leads in the match 9-7 and you have only 2 breaks left after this rack,so IF you can run out here, you have 2 chances to either tie or win the match, for example. Combinations, banks, incredible stroke shots, things that would appeal to the non-playing average viewer would all be brought into play,so would all the emotions you feel watching other sports, like when someone puts together a 5 or 6 rack run the first time,or has a chance to win the match and dogs their brains out. With commentators like those found in golf or tennis, they can discuss who is "hitting" the balls the best, who seems to be falling apart, who appears to be making a charge, and explanations as to WHY these things take place. Since a 9 on the break would not count as an automatic win,and stays down,it would be a good spot to add some corporate sponsored bonus money, like they give for winning the holeshot in a Supercross race, etc. By all means, share your thoughts, good or bad,Tommy D.

i'm not sure if this would work or not...........just a couple things i noticed though(don't mind me, i'm being picky this morning...LOL)

even if you claim it in public, if you don't have paperwork on it, its not yours.....LOL

right now, the pockets aren't 4.5 inches, they are pretty big on the t.v. table, so you would be tightning the pockets.......possibly making the runout harder.

also.......you're totally ruining the competitiveness of the game in my opinion.

there is NOTHING the other person can do to stop you from winning. if they get a bad break, they're screwed.

yes i know that in 9 ball, sometimes you don't have a chance to win........but this would really really suck as far as not getting a chance to win.

not to mention, that the best player would not rise to top even as much as they do in 9 ball.

any pro player can run racks, you would be making the game depend on the break much much more than it already does now, which is a problem commonly discussed.

alot of the time, the difference between a good player and a great player comes to light in a saftey battle.

this would totally eliminate that and would put the better player at even a greater disadvantage than they are already at in 9 ball.

thanks

I don't like this idea at all, for one major reason: You're taking away the "competion." You no longer even have an opponant...you're playing against a ghost.

I think it would take away dramatically from the excitement and suspense too. If a player gets hot, and runs out say 11 of 15 racks, as soon as his opponant doesn't get out on his 4th rack it's over.

The way it's set up now, the trailing player always has a shot until their opponant wins their hill game. If you're behind big to a top player it might not be a great chance, but it's a chance nonetheless.

Personally, I'm getting pretty tired of 9 ball in general and would be happy if they changed to pro game back to 14.1 or even to 8 ball. Even 10 ball would be an improvement. Something that would make it tougher to get a nice spread, where they had to negotiate a break out shot here or there, etc.

I'm just not a big fan of a game where you can make 8/9 balls and still lose because your opponant potted the last one. I equate it to having every football game go to overtime, where the first team to score wins, even if the score is 35-0 at the end of regulation.

Just my 2 cents.
