My precioussss hoppes..(and a plain jane)

Hey Joey,

The other weekend i went to a small pool room. Didn't take my case. Long story short, i ended up playing a few games with a (new) Valley Purpleheart House Cue... The points were close to even, solid, and THICK... when i have the time, i might go by and try to buy it... and see if he has anymore hiding in there anywhere...

Thanks,

Jon

Must be because someone who lacks any vision had it made that way, someone who is so clueless they would think making a copy of another cues design is fine because as they put it "there would only be one original" LOL what a clueless fool you are. How come you shut up on the other thread when those pics were posted of the Gina knockoffs??? Did Mark tell you to shut up because you're looking like a fool? Where was that post you promised from him? LOL Yeah I know where it is, don't worry I talked to Mark already. Save your breath Joe you've already said too much trying to stick to your story, it's sad that you're so stubborn that you'll say the dumbest things just to be consistent.

Jim

PS you claim the cue looks familiar, would you care to post up the pic of the cue it's a copy of??? Oh wait it's not a copy?? just a boti inspired cue, Oh yeah I forgot you can't tell the difference between those 2 definitions, sorry.

Yeah I talked to Mark and we had a great laugh over your rant of the week, but thats besides the point. He didn't also didn't want to address the issue of a specific cue, which is why he declined to write. But even that cue was just "inspired", and a far cry from a "whole cue theft". So again, by your definition that is an ok to do cue. Well I am glad to see you still want to make a big grey area for stealing. Look I just got tired of making you look silly. Thats why I didn't get into the pics of the Phillipi cues. I can see w/o a shadow of a doubt the differences between them and the originals, so by your own ever changing definition, this week they aren't stealing. But next week they'll be stealing again. So what the difference, we will just wait for the trade winds to change. But maybe the owner said it was ok, so then again, it would be ok by you anyways. So whats the point?

doesn't it seem strange that everybody in this post is talking about 'hoppes', and I haven't seen one picture of a hoppe cue in the entire thread. someone please correct me if i am wrong, but 'hoppe' style cues don't have rubber bumpers in them. every cue pictured in this thread has a rubber bumper. that is one of the things that distinguishes the hit of a hoppe cue vs. a traditional cue is the lack of the bumper, it has a very unique sound to it and gives a very unique feedback to the shooter. the cues pictured, while they have the ring in them, all seem to also have rubber bumpers, which to me from a playability standpoint makes them totally 'un-hoppe' in nature.

All these picyure perfect cues and not a real Hoppe among them. If i knew how to post pictures on here i would post a oicture of a couple of real one's for everyone to see. One of them has never been used.......mike

Erm..I guess those are hoppe copies? or hoppe inspired cues? :p I'm just addicted to hoppe rings..

Anyway I DID have a real hoppe once by Joel Hercek. It didn't have the metal screw at the bottom though. Didn't take a friend of mine more than 3 swings to put a chip on the buttcap. Not really his fault though..space in the parlours here tend to be at a premium. Rubber bumpers are vital for the cues' survival where I play.

Eddie,

Dynamite Hoppe collection! Clean, elegant, and the epitome of what "classic" should be in a cue.

Steve

Thanks for the compliment, Hunter :)
Other than simple elegance, I love to collect hoppes cuz they are cheaper to make :p And I'm not very good at creating new inlay designs...

All I need is a few more hoppes that I've been eyeing, and I can finally complete my collection.

Beautiful cues!! But I have to ask; what is your take on the Murrell? Does it play as good as it looks? And you don't have to be specific on the price but was it affordable? I ask because several months ago, I stumbled across Big John at Wolfbite's site and saw some of Ken's work for the first time and I was impressed. Beautiful cues at seemingly great prices. But he's further west than I am and I've never played with one. I want to buy one on looks alone but, unfortunately, I don't have that kind of wealth. I need to hear the praise of others and also a few test hits.

I showed the site to my friend Ronnie and he's now planning on picking one up for himself. If I hear enough praise from people and like the way Ronnie plays, I might just invest. Hell!!! I might even make you an offer on yours!!

I got the Murrell when BIg John put it up on ebay. I've never owned a cue made from amboyna burl before, so I got it. It plays pretty well, but it's 58.5 inches long, so I seldom take it out to play. (space is a premium where I play) It's quite affordable, but I'm letting it go as I have more hoppes coming my way and I'm running out of space in my display case. Well if you are interested, you can contact me via private message ;)
