My Two New Chuck Starkey Cues

Here are my two Chuck Starkey cues. I saw Jay Helfert's cue & bid on one I saw on e-bay. I didn't win the bid, got Chuck's number from Jay and called him. He asked me what I played, and I told him mostly one pocket. He said he would send me a cue and if I liked it, keep it and send him the $$ and if I didn't like it, send it back. This cue is Hawaiian Koa wood with an ivory joint & ferule and a birdseye maple grip. I liked it so much I saw another of his cues on e-bay with points and made sure I won the bid this time. The points are perfect, in the style of the old Brunswick cues, but a little wider inlays that show up better. It is Rosewood with a birdseye maple grip. Both cues play and hit as well as any cue I have ever played with.

Starkey cues

Great looking cues, after hearing what Jay has to say about these cues, I might have to get one of these. Are these the best hitting cues you own?
Regards,
Ian

I just ordered one for myself to try out.* I hope it plays well enough to make it my new player.

Yes they are. I had some trouble adjusting to the hit of the cue with the Ivory joint because there is a difference in the way they play and I haven't played with a cue with Ivory in years. It is the cue I will play with after I send it back to get a second shaft.

When I was younger I could play with anything, but as an older player, I want less deflection and a solid hit without needing the stroke I used to have. I feel like I get that in both these cues. John

Good to hear John. I thought that Chuck only did one style of cue?? The type that he sent to Jay.

Russ...

Chuck let me test hit one of his cues at the Shooters Olathe tournament. I loved it ! The cue had a great hit and feel to it. Really controlled the CB well.

Before I saw the four pointer, most of the cues I saw were the same style as Jay's, with or without the butterfly work. I do not like a lot of gingerbread - silver, ivory, mother of pearl, ect., but like the more subtle work done with different wood. The points on the Rosewood cue are perfect and the veneers on the points are almost flourescent (Chuck's description). The playability is what sold me, but the fact that each one is unique and probably one of a kind doesn't hurt. John
