I recently reworked my entire website.

I'd like some feedback as to what you guys think.

Building websites has always been fun for me, so I'm tinkering with the idea of trying to make a few bucks buy doing websites for others. Give me an idea of what you think would be a fair price to charge for a website of this quality. (one time fee, I would not do any webmaster type work).

It looks more like a blog to me. To be dead honest the site is not very inviting, if this is your site for your business I would recommend moving the links.

I charge a competitive price for cloth. On 8ft bed/rails Championship Titan, I mark it up around $40 over my wholesale price. So, with my $100 "Special", I make $140. The special does not include commercial or antique tables.

I do all recovers myself, by myself. 90% of the time I'm done in 2hrs or less. That's $70+ per hour for in-home labor. Not exactly outside the norm of what most mechanics charge.

And I'll put my workmanship up against any other mechanic in the two states that I serve. In the five years I've been operating in this market, I've never, ever hand anyone call with a compliant. So you can keep your comments regarding what you ASSUME my workmanship quality to be to yourself.

I won't even comment on your workmanship as I do not know you, or your work to assume anything. But I can say those prices are ridiculously low, you making $140 for on a recover doesn't truly make sense. That would mean on a good day say you have 3 recovers you only make $420 and probably drive a great deal to make that. Is everyone in your area that inexpensive? I would get out of this trade if that was the money.

It's really nobodys business what this person charges. He asked how his site looked, not criticism on what he charges. I will continue to charge whatever i feel like it. Sorry

Try making a buck in MY area! It's tough when you have guys under cutting everyones bids in some of the rooms around here. $150 to recover 9' tables w/Simonis and paying two guys? I can't make it on that, won't try and refuse to under bid those lowballs! Some guys are moving tables across counties for $225 and less just to get the jobs. Craigslist is full of them advertising and under cutting each other. Sad!!

Anyway, to the OP's question.....I think your site looks good but a little busy on some pages. Almost too much info on some. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I can see how making 400 bucks in a day must really suck for you...?!?!?

I live and work in the Kansas City Metro Area. Prices here are lower for EVERYTHING, than they are in most major metropolitan areas, especially those on the east or west coast. The metro area isn't as big as most, so most of my work is within 30 miles.

My overhead is extremely low. My "shop" is my garage. So my only expenses are materials, gasoline, insurance, my cell phone, and helpers when I do moves. Perhaps some of you have a large nut. I don't.

As some of you have stated, craigslist is full of lowballers. What their situation is, I don't know. I know that the economy is screwed right now and people have families to feed, so I don't disparage anyone's honest efforts to make money to put food on the table. If my prices were any higher, I'd lose a lot of my business.

I find it curious for someone to say that if they could only make $420 per day they'd get out of the trade... And do what, go back to your career as a neurosurgeon? If I could get three recovers a day, five days a week and make $420 each day... that's about 8k per month after expenses... close to 100k per year... so I ask, what's so freakin' bad about that???

Perhaps your comments are in frustration to those undercutting YOUR prices in YOUR area. But that's not me. You may think I'm some lowballing hack with a couple dozen tables under my belt, but I've been working on pool tables off and on since the mid-80's. Finding ways to do things better, meeting the customers expectations, and doing it cheaper is capitalism at it's finest. Those that offer bargain prices, but give substandard work will always fall to the wayside, especially in the craigslist arena where they seem to operate. One crappy job and I've seen their customers go so far as to list their telephone numbers, names, and license plate numbers of their vehicles. I don't worry about them as much as many of you do. My business will outlast them because I give great service at a good price. And I'll also outlast the guys who seem to think they have to have a 35k truck, quarter page yellow page ads, Snap-On tools and a new duo-fast stapler every month (like RKC, I shop at Harbor Freight).

Sorry about the rant... but I started this thread to get a little feedback on a website. No offense to anyone, (and no hard feelings) but when I want a lecture on how to run my business, I'll freakin' ask for it.

I was in no way trying to attack you I was simply asking, as I don't get why you wouldn't want to make more money. My post wasn't malicious, the one guys spouting about hacks and shit was, but not mine. Anyway I would never buy a damned Duo-Fast again, Harbor Freight sells the best air staple gun I have ever used, picked 8 of them up for 15.99 a piece. Not one has broke but compressors have. You're right it is Capitalism at its finest and I appreciate you explaining it to me, I really did not get it.

Back to the website anyway, as I stated before I think you may want to move the links and Pool Halls so it frees up room to give a good opening home page. Also possibly move your fall special towards the top so it is the first thing that is hit when they visit your site.

website..

im not trying to make anyone mad..im just saying the trades that someone has to be good at to work on pools tables is a lot of experience in other fields of work that has took years and years to learn many trades..if u have never swung a hammer, turned the wrench, used power tools a day in your life and u think anyone can be a pool table mechanic, ur crazy..a pool table mechanic has to wear many hats"if u know what im saying" and that kind of experience gets the job done rite and is worth a customer paying what most of us charge because we earned it...we all will do some work from time to time that we don't want to do because we are broke and need money....its coming to the point to where we are all fed up with people doing crappy work and getting paid for it that "we" have to maintain the pool table mechanic service...i know all the mechanics that belong to this forum are good mechanics or are trying there best to do great work.."we" us...all of us... have to set a standard...we are all here for a good cause or we would of not signed up for this forum...we all know who needs to lite the fuse.

You are already ahead of me. I don't have a clue about setting up a website. Congratulations on a job well done.
