I agree that on most shots calling is not necessary, but when you have to/ should call, wouldn't 10B be easier than other telling or pointing, and everybody doing (and understanding) the same calling system?

My brother and I agreed to number the pockets. It lasted a few weeks, but then we dropped it. It is usually so obvious what the intended shot is, we rarely call an audible. If a ball falls in an unintended pocket, we own up to the mistake and forfeit the inning. We still call banks, kicks and combos.
On the whole, numbering/naming pockets is not a bad idea. For strangers or for money, it might avoid a few arguments.
