Napa

NAPA was the biggest joke I've ever had the misfortune to be a part of. I played the very first year they had their Nationals and I did very well. It looked like it take off to be a nice League. It was played on Diamonds in a nice venue. I took a couple of years off because I had been there, done that. When I returned in Atlanta, it was a long drawn out affair with no added prize money and played on dumpy Valleys after advertising all year about Diamonds.

Attached is their Master/Grand Master chart which looked like a seond grader titled it with a crayon. 21 combined players and I believe $300 was the top prize. From the chart (which was posted for several hours) you can see that 8 names were literally whited out and moved to other slots on the chart. When I challenged the powers to be, they barred me without refund. That's what I asked for. I wasn't an idiot nor did I curse or act stupid making my point. Simply pointed out that this can't be done. It was not a redraw. They refused to explain why it done.

All matches for the entire week were thrown into the trash can after posting the winner/loser on the appropriate chart. Nothing was ever entered into their computer base. Consequently, all the local sandbaggers who showed up remained at their entry skill level when the week was concluded. What a joke!

I prefer the Napa Silver Oak but the Alexander Valley is a better value. Hope that helps.

That looks like a bad ordeal! I’ve been playing in a NAPA laggers choice league for 4 years now with no complaints, but I’m sure my LO is a big part of that.

I played Napa for 2 years and loved it. would still be playing if it was available in my area. I played at the nationals in nashville and tunica and had absolutely no issues with how it was ran or sandbagging .

I have also played...bcapl...tap....usapl and apa. Napa laggers choice is by far my favorite league.

Glad to hear!

I enjoy napa on a local level, don't really have any interest in playing their national tournaments.

This will be a first for me. I played APA and BCA leagues back in the 90’s, then just casual bar pool for 15 years, and now I’m playing a lot more competitive pool. My league operator asked if I’d play with him in this team tournament in Denver, and I figured... why not?!
I started this thread to see if anyone could give me an idea what to expect.

Having not played Napa for several years I have no idea what you should expect. I do know it was ran very well at both nationals I played in. I just played in the singles both times.

TeeA brought up his experience at the Atlanta nationals in which there was a thread on here where others stated what he stated above. The following year it was held in michigan in which a friend of mine went and played in and he said his experience was pretty much positive other than he did not finish in the money lol.

My advice is just go have fun shooting pool and play your best . I am sure you will encounter strong players for their handicap like I encountered but I never thought they were sandbaggers and I also encountered players who i thought were over handicapped. You really cant tell based on one match with them in my opinion .

Thanks for the info and good advice. Competition is fun... and fun is what it’s all about!
