National Pool Table

Could anyone give me some info on National Pool Tables. I have a chance to purchase one and wanted to know about anything I can think of. It's a 9 footer with 1 1/2" slate I was told.

I have not seen the table as of yet. Going to view it Monday. Any info would be grateful.

Thanks for your time...

If it's an old National out of Cincinnati, they're pretty good.
There are Nationals made from the 80's on that are no good.
Post a picture on Monday.

I'm not a table mechanic...

The first room I learned to play in had 8 commercial National tables. When I "graduated" and moved onto another room with GC's, the Nationals seemed like junk, imo. It was routine for the balls to hop on some rails, be dead on other rails, get stuck in the returns, etc. I know some of this might have been table maintenance...

No way the table has 1.5" slate... the slate has a strip of wood underneath it that the cloth is stapled to. The seller is mistakingly counting that wood's thickness as part of the slate.

Unless this is a steal of a deal and the table plays great when you see it, I think you are better off waiting for a GC to show up in your area.

Just my 2 cents:)

I think I played on some Nationals like you have experienced...in the 90's
...and I agree, they weren't very good.
But I used to play on old National 6x12s in the 70's..they were excellent.

So if a National is old, it's worth looking at...
...if it is modern, I'd take a pass.

Here's a winner, and it's an old National
