I'm better with a wedge!

After waffling back and forth on whether or not to go; I have decided to. And, as an atempt to cut some of you off at the pass.....I know, there are a ton of APA haters out there, so, responding to this thread with how much their leagues SUCK is of no use to me.

Our team won the regional tourney, and now are off to Vegas....with a few changes to handicaps before we go (3 raises after the tourney - not during, AFTER). Now for my questions to those who've been before .....

How much down (non-playing) time will there be? Can I get in a couple of rounds of golf even if we are winning? Are the little side tourneys worth it? Is the experience - fun, tiresome, a bit boring, or totally not worth it?

I was a bit concerned about giving up a weeks wages (no paid time off) to go....guess I'm just hoping I won't regret the decision. Any help will be appreciated.

Those are the links for both the 8 ball and 9 ball teams, match times and preliminary agenda.

Hope this helps. Last year, our 8 ball team was there and I think we had a full day off. There is a lot of down time, but plenty of time for minis galore. This year, our 9 ball team made it. We got a bye in the first round, so we don't start playing until Saturday. I just wish they had posted this info before we decided to get there on Wed night. Oh well.

Good luck to you and your teammates!

I went the past two years for 8-ball and then after the second time quit APA just because I was playing too many league nights, so I cut out APA.

The first year we went down we were out in two matches so we had 5 days to spend in Vegas doing whatever...mostly drinking and gambling...shocker, I know. :D

Last year we finished 33rd. When you win that many matches in a row it gets tiring so it is best to sleep when you can. Here was our schedule last year (days may be off a little):

Monday 1PM - won. With as many teams as were in it we didn't play again until Wednesday morning.
Wednesday 8AM - won back to room to rest for a few hours
Wednesday 6PM - won
Wednesday 11PM - won match got over at 2:30AM
Thursday 8AM - won not much sleep
Thursday 1PM - won
Thursday 6PM - won
Thursday 11PM - won again over at 2:30AM
Friday 8AM - won very tired now
Friday 1PM - lost

The team we lost to had two 7s and their 3's played like 5's and beat our 4's. Underranked but so be it. Our 4's had chances and missed easy 8's and outs.

So I guess the point of my post is to tell you that if you continue winning all the way through you will have zero time to golf. If you lose out then you will. Our first years team was more down there to have a good time which is why people showed up hung over and lost...then they could all just go party for 5 more days. Last years group was down to win and we did pretty good.

Good luck to eveyone going this year!!

if the APA team tourney is anything like VNEA, you wont have time to go to the bathroom

table 76 oh were done, off to table 111, oh were done, over to table 177, were done-"can someone get me a burger"

thanks for the replies....I'm sure it'll be a good time. I just feal a bit guilty leaving the wifey at home. I usually do a 3 day weekend or two per year to play golf, but not a whole week. And being in the trades (PAID HOURLY, W/NO PAID OFF DAYS), takes a toll on the pocketbook. Hopefully I can sneak in one round while there (talked another local who's 9 ball team made it into a nice little wager) ;) I may not be too good at pool, but he doesn't know that I've shot 5 rounds under par this year on the links!!!

Thanks again, for your help - keep 'em comin'!
