Need a little advice on Re Stretching Felt.

I bought moved and assembled a Brunswick table. I spent way too many hours leveling the slate. Bought two precision levels in the process. And am finally in the "home stretch" so I hope. I have the felt pulled and stapled all around. And all of the previous holes line up with holes in the slate for the rail bolts. So I'm thinking I'm really close. But no joy. I don't have enough stretch in the felt to pull down the center pockets all of the way down and under the edge. There is enough felt to pull them down to where I could staple them in the face of the underlayment. But it would be very tight and not enough material to staple on the underside. The corners all have enough that I will be able to staple them and they will be good. But the center pockets are coming up short on felt.

So my question is, can I dampen the felt with some water to get a little bit of extra stretch? Or is there a better way to deal with this issue? I figure at this point I'll try to get this felt to work, but if I can't I'll have to replace it anyway.

As an FYI this table is in my basement for family use. Certainly not expecting the "pro" results out of this table. Just a family of hacks.

Cheers,
Ron
