Well, it may not be for you, but many people, including me, like a break cue around an ounce or so less than their playing cue.

Like I said, that approach may not work for you, but I do all right with it.

Good Luck,
Craig

How exactly do I find the weight of my cue currently? Should I just order an 18.5 and hope for the best?

19 oz is a typical weight maybe go with that, I am getting a BK2 myself at that weight.

Your guess is as good as mine! ha!
Go to a post office or a UPS store and ask them to weigh it for you. They probably will. As far as the weight for the BK2. It doesn't really matter what you order it at because the weight can be changed with a weight bolt very easily. No matter what there is no standard weight for a break cue it is what YOU feel comfortable with and like.

If say by chance I order it from a dealer on an online retailer, I wont have a chance to feel it in my hands. Can my cue-man change the weight easily without voiding warrenty?

You can change the bolt yourself without voiding the warranty. It is a simple process. All you need is an allan wrench. You take off the rubber bumper and unscrew the bolt with the allen wrench (lefty loosey - righty tighty. You can either put another bolt in or if you leave it out all together.

I tightened my current playing cue in the bolt recently as it was loose. What is the stock weight without the weight bolt?

I had a BK2 and took the weight bolt out and it weighed exactly 18.oz. I don't think there is a standard because some shafts weigh more than others but it is usually around 18 to 18.5oz. Generally people like thier break cue around .5 oz lighter than thier player but as I said before it is what YOU like. You will like the BK2 no matter what weight it is anyways :)

LOL - because it is a great break cue. It was built for a purpose and serves its purpose very well. If you don't like it I will buy it at half price from you. :)

Having experimented extensively with break cues, here is some advice:

1) Make sure to specify the weight of the cue WITHOUT a weight bolt. I recommend that you get as light as you can, around 18. You can get weight bolts weighing like 2.2 oz. Remember that this will change the balance of the cue considerably. I have a Predator BK (1st gen.) It weighs 16.3 without the bolt. I have a 2.2 oz weight bolt, so this puts me at about 18.5. It is very rear weighted, which I like a lot (I am tall, and I think rear balance is good for breaking, assuming you already have good control)

2) If you buy directly from Predator, you can request specific things like this. If you want to save a little money, Seyberts was very good at accomodating requests for specific things (like the weight without a bolt, for example)

3) You will need to decide for yourself what weight works best for you. If you have major trouble with power, a light weight can potentially generate more speed for you. If you have a good power break technique, a heavier weight can offer a little more control-slightly cue speed, but roughly equal cue ball speed. I have a really nice Omen break cue that is 18.8 without a bolt, and I have about a 1.2 oz bolt in there, so it is about 20 oz. I find I break slightly better with the heavier weight.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out!

No, because it is manufactured from lightning and woven material consisting of flannel and Chuck Norris Beard hairs

Ok, I'll give a bit of a background and maybe that will make it easier for us to detemine the weight I should need.

Im pretty short, about 5'6, Im 'slim fit', I have pretty fast hands and great hand eye co-ordination from my boxing background so getting the cue going wouldnt be a problem. When I play on 9ft tables, in 9 ball I use a soft break and 8 ball I use a hard break. Bar box I usually use my playing cue to break in 9 and my break cue in 8, both at my max power without sending whitey on the floor. I would like a break cue that I can use in all situations.

Can I order two shafts with the BK2? one with the phonelic and one with the leather???? How much extra is it usually?

Lightning, flannel and chuck beard? I thought that was just a rumour, I'll take a dozen BK2s!

I don't think Predator sells BK2 shafts seperately. I had the phenolic and carbon fier tip and it worked great.
For your break I would suggest trying to hit at about 80% power. Hitting the center of the cue ball to the center of the head ball. A good solid/flush break is all that is needed and a lot of times the results are not as good when you hit them as hard as you can.

It seems I have to be in a rythem and the more focused I am, the harder I can go at the break without sacrificing a scratch or cue ball off the table.

Not saying I go 100%, just with enough force to be able to still maintain control.

Maaaaaaan, all this talk about Bk2's and whatnot makes me want one

Break cue

I am 5'7", strong for my size (workout, lift), but I am 60 now, and I bought a J&J break/jump cue about 1 1/2 years ago. (I have 2 shafts for mine).

I normally play with a 20.2 oz cue, and my J&J is a 19.5 oz..

Now, I have not broken with the BK2, but have with the BK, and my J&J breaks better than the regular BK.

I use to be strictly a separate break cue and a separate jump cue, but the J&J has changed my opinion about that. You do what you want, but if I was going to spend some bucks like you are for a BK2, I would want a Break/Jump cue, not just a Break cue.

I think the stiff conical taper to 14mm phenolic ferrule/tip is what is mostly responsible for the added power in breaking with them. I mostly got mine because I am getting older, and needed to put some 'snap' back in my breaks like when I was younger. BTW, the phenolic tip has actually helped me in form on the break, because I had to concentrate more on my breaking form to be consistent with it instead of just concentrating on power.
