If anyone wouldn't mind helping explain to me how to find a decent cue to start with that would be greatly appreciated. My budget is $150.

Schmelke. Do a search for them. They are made in the US (Wisconsin) by a small family run company, and offer great value for the money. They have many choices in your price range.

I especially recommend their M010 with the No. 4 (3/8 x 10) joint. You'll get a no-frills, great playing, cue, and have money left over for accessories.

Schmelke is definately the best for $150 and under. Once you get to the $200 range many more quality cues are availalable. That would get you in a plane jane Joss or a McDermott with a G-Core shaft. Of course I am talking new.

Post that you have $150 to spend in the wanted/for sale section and you should get a bunch of good offers for used cues.

I have some brand new furys with tiger everest tips , linen wrap, inlays, quick release joints and lifetime warrenty

I'll second that a McDermott g-core is a great stick all around. I've got many others, and still like shooting with my McDermott on and off as it has a particular feel.

I have a real nice Viking

If you can add 25 for shipping and paypal fees, I have a nice Viking Q21. It is coccobolo with tulipwood points and inlays. Linen wrap is dark brown with light brown specks. Shaft and butt are dead straight. Newer Sniper layered tip. I just reconditioned shaft, its perfectly smooth. 58 inch cue, I can weight it, felt like 19. Weight can be changed with weightbolt.
PM your cell# or email for pictures. Its a great cue.

Ignoring price, I would recommend a cue that has interchangeable shafts.
Any cue with a Uni-loc, stainless steel collar like Joss, Pechauer (pro joint), or Schon.
My reason is that it is much easier get a new shaft and have it match up at the joint.
