Need Advice on Who Should Rebuild My GC IV Rails

Very nice. Is that color Camel?

What are the angles that the corners are cut and did u stick with 4"

Yes the color is camel. Gold masters chalk works the best with it. I did stick with the 4" pockets. As for the angles I'll let Mark speak to that as I'm not really sure.

Looking damn good. Nice job. Great choice on the color also. It is perfect on the IV.

Thanks GoldCrown! It is breaking in very nicely now. Banks like a dream with the slide disappearing. Side note: the gold colored masters chalk barely even shows up on the cloth.

question

After the cloth gets broke in a little can you post whether or not you think that those pockets are a little too small or just right? Thanks

Yes I can certainly share my thoughts but it will be only my subjective opinion. If I'm playing daily then I can run 8 and out occasionally in one pocket - if the balls are pretty open. I mention this because my opinion at my level might be different than someone else's opinion who plays at a higher or lower level than I. My feeling is that I made the right choice on pocket size. Having played on new Simonis cloth and watching it break in on many tables, I know what to expect. Since the shelf depth of the pocket is deeper now though it might change up a bit but so far the balls are dropping very cleanly when properly struck. If you try to punch lots of shots instead of stroke them, then this table will punish you - and IMHO rightfully so. Hope that helps.

I think your shelf depth should be shallower after tightening the pockets. My GC had very deep shelves with the original rubber and pocket dimensions, with the the new rubber and tighter pockets it is a more normal shelf depth now. In the original configuration, a ball could sit so deep in the pocket that you could not make the ball hitting rail first. If you actually measure my pockets at the openings they are between 4 1/4" and 4 3/8".

You are correct in that typically the shelf depth does get shallower when you make a pocket smaller - however when Mark rebuilds the rails, he modifies the subrails such that the rail sits slightly more on top of the slate to provide a greater shelf depth. Mark Gregory can probably elaborate more on this.
