Need help from Filipino/Tagalog speakers

Kulay is singular,,, ( mga kulay ) is Plural According to my filipina wife.. The a is silent and there is the I sound there like Kuli,,,hope that helps.

Thanks for the help guys, but this is still not clear. There is no English equivalent for "nga". How would you say that? Would it be "ga" with the n being silent? Like "ma-ga cool-lie"? Or is it more like manga as in mango?

And how does it depend on the sentence? Because in this use, there is no sentence, it's a stand alone name.

Could I just call it Kulay (as in cool-lie) and be done with it? I think the one word sounds better even if it is the singular word for color. How would that sound to Filipinos?

One more question? Where is the emphasis on the syllables? Is it COOL-lie or is it cool-LIE?

Pronounce it as coolay

coo as in...The baby makes a "coo" sound.
lay as in..."Lie" down on the bed.

The word by itself is singular. It's not like the English language where you can simply just add an "s" at the end to make it plural.

Ang kulay ng bulaklak ay pula.
The color of the flower is red.

Iba-iba ang "mga kulay" ng "mga bulaklak".
The flowers have different colors.

pula=red
Iba-iba=different
bulaklak=flower (one flower)
mga bulaklak=the flowers
In the sentence above, to make bulaklak and kulay plural, you have to add "mga" in front of it.
 
Here's my attempt on how to say "nga"

Holler, to yell, can be prounounced as
hollaaah (silent r)

If you apply the above to the word "ringer" like JayZ would maybe rap something like...

He's a dead "ringaah" for my niggghaaaa...

take out the "ri", and you get ngaah = nga

MGA is prounounce by adding "ma" in front of "nga" above

mah-ngaah (no pause in between where the dash is)

I just realized that to write "mga" in English is going to throw people off since the letter combination "mg" does not exist in English. At least I can't think of an example where it exists at the beginning of a word like this.

So I am just going to stick with the singular "Kulay".

Last question is where is the emphasis on the syllables?

OK, I think I get that now, thanks. But as I said in my post (which was about the same time as yours) I think that'll be too unusual for people who's first language is English. So I'm just going with "Kulay"

I think your problem is that you are trying to convert/match word for word english and Tagalog. You can not translate word for word.

I understand that you can't match word for word. I just chose to go with the singular "kulay" because; first, I think it already has a nice ring to it without the added word "mga" and second, when written "mga" just looks odd to people who only speak English and we wouldn't have a clue how to pronounce it after reading it. So I just made an executive decision to use "kulay".

I want to give my sincere thanks to everyone who helped with this.
