I'm looking for help to identify the maker of a pool cue I own so i could possibly get the upper shaft replaced or fixed because it has become warped over the years I have owned it. The only marking on the stick is a Cobra head and name Cobra, but I've been unsuccessful finding a company by this name, or if Cobra just relates to the Grip on the shaft. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. Also my apologies if i have posted this question in the wrong forum.

Cobra was a lower end Asian cue that they quit building in the late 90's. Many of them came with snake skin wraps.

I believe I have seen one on here before, it belonged to user acedonkeyace and was listed in one of his freaking impossible to decipher for sale threads... if I recall correctly it was a Phillipino import...

Perhaps someone else here who is better at navigating Mike's many threads referencing "the post below this one" or "the thread with the prices" can find the pictures of cue 46 he was selling?

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

The Cobra cue was made by Kao-Kao in Taiwan.

I have a good bit of history on these cues but suffice it to say that it is a very inexpensive cue and a shaft will probably be worth more than the cue. They have virtually zero player interest and virtually zero collector interest. I find them entertaining so I have dug up a lot about them including talking to some of the people formerly involved in the company.

Of historical note, the cues are linked to Steve Mizerak as he once had a deal with them. The cues of that era with his name on them were made by the same company.

If it has a great deal of sentimental value you can get a cheap shaft on Ebay, but to match the joint ring you would probably need to buy a whole Cobra cue. Several other brands including Mizerak, Competition, and others will match as well as they were made by the same company.

You can probably get one almost any time on Ebay for around $35.00. I have paid as little as $3.00 for a Cobra cue at a flea market actually. Some of the fancier ones, especially with figured forearms and veneered points can fetch around $150-$175 on Ebay. But I assure you, those values are inflated and if you have that to spend there are many better alternatives for a playing cue.

Of course, you could have a shaft made, but most will say it isn't worth it.

I have a few of these cues and find them amusing. I don't currently have an extra shaft to match your model. (Inconveniently, you don't show the joint but I think you have the plain maple ring inside a black ring like my middle cues in the pics.) I do have an extra stitched ring Cobra shaft at the moment, like the ones in the left of my pic. I may or may not be interested in letting it go, I am not sure.

Thank you everyone for the information I would like to find a replacement shaft however because this stick does mean something to me because it being my first cue given to me by my father and it has always treated me well.

Unfortunately the thread doesn't seem to match any that were posted but i appreciate the information you have given me.

Sorry about the low quality of this image I have pore lighting at night.

Since you have a plain black ring, it is in fact very easy to match the shaft.

The shaft you have for it isn't original anyway.

But even if you wanted another one with a silver ring it is easy to match as well.

You can pick up a 5/16x18 thread shaft for the cue fairly cheap, like on Ebay. I am 100% sure of the joint pin threads you have. You can, of course spend more and get a good shaft if you want.

You can use a piloted or a non-piloted shaft insert, it really does not matter. If you get a piloted one it's possible the pilot would be too big and need cut down (but not terribly likely as most of them have pretty small pilots).

The caveat is the diameter of the joint collar. You may need to have a repair man match that for you. If the shaft is a little undersized it can be matched with a little extra finish. If it is oversize they can cut it down a little.

If you have calipers you can measure your joint collar and match a shaft that way. If you don't I can measure mine for you.....

OK, never mind.... I did it for you anyway:

0.854 inches are what mine spec out to be. They are all the same.

You can email sellers and ask if they can tell you the joint diameter, try to match what I gave you.

Alternatively you can go to the wanted/for sale forum here and post a wanted ad for a black collar 29 inch shaft with a 5/16x18 joint at 0.854" and see if anybody has one for you.

Of course....you could always get another silver ring one with those same specs.

Lastly, maybe one of the cue makers here can come up with one or make you one.

Hope that helps.
