Need help Identifying cues

I recently purchased these 2 cues. I know now that the joss is a joss east, but I am trying to figure out when it was made, model number...etc. the joss was bought used inn early 1990's and I am assuming it is from the late 70's to very early 80's but am not at all sure. It appears to have ivory inlays and ivory ferrules. The other cue is apparently a Kersenbrock. I have no idea what year it was made. Any help will be greatly appreciated...
I do not check the forum often, so it is easier to email me. http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/pa...=&.done=http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/paradoxgdf

the Joss with the name on the shaft and below the joint is from the 80's after the company split forming Joss and Josswest. As far as price I realy could not guess without seeing the cue in person, but I can tell you it is not worth as much as the joss cues from the 70's. I would guess well over the $500 range. The other cue if It is a Kersenbrock with no points it list in the old blue book on pool cues at $900 to $1250 used. If it has points the price ranges from $1350 and up, the second edition may have a different price. Hope this helps Carlton

The pictures did not come out very good, unfortunately. I will try to get better ones soon. I am new to the forum so i will try to do better on where to post stuff, I was under the impression the cue forum was buy/sell only...
The Kersenbrock (if it is a Kersenbrock) has 6 cocobolo points with green thin outer points.. It also has 3 rings. I am not sure what they are called (a-e) but there are no rings above or below the wrap. I will try to get more pics up soon.
Do you know the model # of the Joss cue by chance? thanks.
Gregg

I can't remember the #....but if one of the proficient guys come in here they can tell you. And if that Keresnbrock has points.......you really need some better pics! lol.......Welcome paradox! to the best posting site!

So, yours is a southwest? I am really confused now...The guy I got it from said he got it in 92 or 93 from Jerry Franklin. From my knowledge (which is probably minimal at best) all southwests have the cactus on it. Your joint screw looks like mine, no cactus, just the helical remainder of the threads before they were shaved off...
Wonder what it is worth now (especially if Jerry Franklin made it...) I have 1 shaft with it. It is a beautiful cue and the pictures do not do it justice. I want to send it in and get it reconditioned and get another shaft for it. The Joss will get reconditioned as well but I may try to sell it in the future. I like the SW or Kersenbrock or whatever it is better...

Kersenbrock made cues with Franklin. They worked together for a short time. Not sure from what to what.....but Kersenbrock wasn't there in 91'. Somebody said when they started putting the cactus on them.....94' I think? 93'

I emailed pictures to Southwest (and will email to Kersenbrock if I can find the email address)... The guy I got the cues from said it was a Southwest. I was told they all had cactus marks on them so I am still unsure if it is a southwest or Kersenbrock...Maybe i will get a reply from southwest soon...Thanks.
Gregg

I wonder what this "Southwest" is worth? I am awaiting an email from southwest to see what kind it is and I may send it to be reconditioned and get a certificate of authenticity...

I tried a search of J-15 but only got newer cues, joss east site does not have a search or archives that i found. I will call them tomorrow...thanks for all the help people!

Gregg,
South West doesn't normally ID cues from pics. For a few reasons, alot of fakes, the similarities between DPK's cues and their own. It would be worth sending the cue to Laurie and getting a letter or authenticity if it is one of theirs. She is real nice and easy to deal with. Plus the letter will go along way if you ever resell it. If it is a SW, I would think it was real early.
The Joss is a late 80's to early 90's Joss and will have limited collectibilty. You may get 500-750 for it IMHO.

Joe, I wasn't thinking they could be positive from pictures I was just hoping they could give me an idea of who made it. I plan on sending it to get properly identified but I did not want to send it to SW and then have to get it back only to send it to Kersenbrock later...either way (unless it is a total fake) I plan on keeping the SW/Kersenbrock for myself but I will be selling the Joss in the future.
Should I keep the Joss in its original condition (chips in finish and in fair to good condition in my opinion) or send it in to be refinished and rewrapped? I am new to the collecting aspect of cues and wonder what the general concensus is here...

Well the funny thing is to send it to DPK you have to find him first. Finding Dave is like a Where's Waldo game. If he is still with Ed Young you have a shot. But I know where SW is and they are always there, so its a very safe move. The only thing is they have a long list even for a shaft. (6 months or so) ID's they do right away.
The Joss, well I always believe in 80% condition or better, keep it as is. But if you are going to do the work, do yourself a favor and get it back to Joss. It always means a little more when the original maker does the work.

paradox...
I have two Kersenbrocks...
one made for me in '76 and the other I picked up on the road.
Dave used to make cues and take them to the pool room and "give them a hit" to make sure "HE" liked the hit.
I lived in Vegas for quite a while and probably hit balls with at least 50-60 cues and saw at least 150!
I sold about 30 or so of Daves cues.
When you take a photo try to get up close and personal with about a 45 degree angle so there is no glare.
get a good photo of the screw from the side and from just off center of the top.
Sure looks like a Kersenbrock but close up of the screw could help.

note* I don't know how familiar Laurie at Southwest cues is with Daves cues, but I know she was married to Jerry when Jerry was working with Dave, couldn't hurt to contact her
