Can anyone share some useful tips for fine tuning the rails? I am having trouble getting the rails and aprons lined up.

Also, I've heard and read that the rails and aprons can be assembled upside-down as a whole unit and flipped over to be installed. Is this really a good idea? I would worry that the aluminum pocket castings could break.

In my experience the Gandy Big G railset is not sturdy enough to flip over with one guy at each end like we flip over Gold Crown railsets. The castings will break!! However if you get a couple more people with extra support you could probably get it done without damage.

you might have better luck getting the rails lined up perfect if you leave the side skirts/aprons off until you get the rails and castings just how you want them. Its easier because all of the hardware is easy to get at without the skirts in the way. then attatch skirts last

Good luck,

Yeah, that's what I thought too. I've only ever assembled it by putting the rails on and then the aprons last.
