NEED HELP! Should I get Viking or Lucasi?

I just got my tax money back and I'm buying a new Cue.:) Viking G08 or Lucasi LD-2. :rolleyes: Also I was thinking of upgrading to a Kamui tip. :wink:

What do you think??
 
Is there a pro shop near you that would let you feel them both out a bit? There's a place here that (obviously) doesn't le you chalk the tip, but if you just want to grab it and stroke it a few times on a table or whatever, they certainly allow it. I would suggest that. You may find that the feel of 1 is better than the other.
 
That's a tough question. Will this be the first cue you have ever purchased? Have you played with one of these before? A lot of things will come into play when making your decision, but my first question to you is how much are you willing to pay?
 
Well prepare yourself for a million opinions. Here's mine. For under $300 you can't go wrong with either one. It's all going to depend on what type of feel do you like. It looks like they will both hit very similar because of their joints. The Lucasi has a steel joint with the Uni-lock, which may hit a little stiffer, but they will be very similar. However if you like a softer hit, then you might actually consider the Lucasi BW-6 Bushka style pool cue. I think you can find the picture at the Billiard Warehouse. It's still right under $200. It will have a softer hit than the other two, and you just can't beat it for the money!!

That is just my opinion, I don't sell cues, so I have no vested interest in what you buy. Just making a suggestion. I just hope you like whatever you end up going with.
 
I used to use the same lucasi that your looking at for a year or two, I upgraded to a jacoby a few months ago, and it is like night and day playing with the two, I use the lucasi as my breaker now. My suggestion would be to hold off and search the wanted/for sale section here and get a better quality cue in the same price range, I think i paid around ~350 for mine
 
I had a Lucasi for about a year and liked it just fine. I would recommend a Lucasi to any friends looking for a good inexpensive cue.

However, buying a quality sneaky pete from a custom builder would also be a good option.
 
I really dont think you can get more bang for your buck than from getting a Lucasi. While I do love my Viking VX13, and they are made in the USA, I think a Lucasi is a better choice in this circumstance. Since they have the uni-loc joint, upgrading to a LD shaft in the future would be terribly easy and would most likely match perfectly at the collar.

I have been wanting to try out a Kamui tip myself but whatever you do, I would get that stock LePro removed immediately.

Both are fine cues for the money. If I had to pick, I would probably go with the Lucasi. When you decide which one you want, check out www.FineCue.com. We have both at competitive prices.

I am a big fan of the Uni-lock joint. I have been using a fiberglass shaft for many years(cuetec). But I think its time that I get a real cue. (Sorry Travis) R360 is nice......

I would imagine those two cues will hit totally different. The Lucasi has a stainless joint. The Viking a phenolic joint. If you are a newer player you may want to stick to a wood to wood joint or a phenolic joint (they will have a "softer" hit than SS) for a few years. Also I am not a big fan of Lucasi's regular shafts (the Hybrid shaft hits better IMO) so I would have to choose the Viking.
 
I've been playing pool on and off for 20 years, always had a table(s) at my house... But this is my first big investment in a cue....
 
I would just post in the wanted for sale section that you have $300.00 to spend. Please show me what you have. You maybe able to pick up a SCHON STL-1, or who knows. It wouldn't hurt.

Then save your money for a while. Either cue will probably suit your needs at present. I can't recommend one or the other, I don't like production cues, personally. Whatever you get, I would highly suggest not getting a third party shaft in the near future if you have no experience with them. They take a lot of getting used to.{if ever} Just having a different cue will be enough to deal with for a while. Be lot different than a cuetec.
 
I have a Viking but I don't like the feel, also needs new shaft, With black collar if anyone has one for sale?
 
I have owned both a Lucasi and Viking and my preference goes to the Viking. Not to mention the Viking is made in the US and has a lifetime warranty.
 
IMHO. you can do alot better than Lucasi or Viking for $300. Before you do anything you should identify what type of hit your looking for. After you know what kind of feel you want, go to the for sale section very often and be patient. You'll be glad you did.
