Need Help W/ 9ball Tourn Rating System

This Summer We Revamped The Rating System For Our Local In House Tourn. Over The Years There Have Been Complaints About Sandbagging And Lower Players Cashing More Frequently. We Rate Our Players Generally From 7 To 17 (lower To Higher). We Spot Balls For Our Handicap Games. My Questions Is Not With The Spots, Since They Are Working Well.

We Keep Track Of Our Players Performances And Raise And Lower Them When They Reach 100 Points (plus Or Minus). For Example If We Have Over 16 Players We Use This System. 1st (+50), 2nd (+33), 3rd(+25), 4th(+10), 5/6th ( 0 ), 7/8th ( 0 ), 9/12th (-20)
13/16th ( -25), 17/24th (-30), 25/32nd(-40)

This Is Working Well, But My Question Is If The Fields Are Smaller Should The Point System Be Altered. In My Opinion It Is Easier To Win A Small Tourn. And I Don?t Think You Should Be Penalized. I Was Thinking Something Like 1st(+40)
2nd(+25), 3rd (+15), 4-6th ( 0 ), 7/8th (-10), 9/12(-20), 13/16(-30). We Keep The Points Slightly Lower On The Losing End To Prevent Dumping.

I Would Love A 2nd Or 3rd Opinion. Does Any One Lower Or Raise Their Players Based On A Point System.

I run a small local 9-ball tounament, and what we do is have a race to 5. We rate our players on a number system between 4 and 15. Lesser player being 4 best player a 15. For ever three points you get a game on the wire for every one point you get the break. So if you have a 7 playing a 14 you get 2 games on the wire and 1 break. Or if you have a 4 playing a 15, you get 3 games and 2 breaks on a race to 5. It might be a little more basic than what you are looking for, but I like to keep it simple.

Thanks for the input. However, I'm not looking for the spot. What I'm getting at is when you raise and lower your players ratings.
