Need Help with a Shaft

2 questions. First a little background. I have 2 Viking cues. My shooting cue is a G-31. I have an older F-46 that my girlfriend uses. She is finally starting to become interested in pool but doesn't like the 13mm shaft on my old f46. She likes the shaft on my G-31 because its thinner. I bought it 2 years ago and cant remember what the shaft diameter is. I know its 12.something.

Question 1: How do I measure the shaft to determine the correct size? Where do i measure. I have access to a set of calipers.

Question 2: Is is cheaper to just buy a new shaft in the smaller diameter or have the old one turned down to size??

it's always cheaper to turn one down than to buy a new shaft, unless you want to keep the original the way it is for resale. As far as figuring the diameter, measure at the tip and right around where youo would bridge on the shaft to get a good idea.
