Need help with MENTAL GAME!!

KY BOY said:
He finally starts locking me up tight with safeties. I am not used to playing someone with excellent safety play and look upon the time as a good learning experience. He played great for a couple of hours really not missing a ball. I was sitting in my chair get smoked!!!

However, my problem is when he started missing I had been frozen to my chair for so long and hadn't seen a ball I couldn't get out when I had the opportunities. I felt as if my brain had my hands and arms bound together. I had no confidence what so ever and really struggled from there on out. Gary

People get uneasy, out of their comfort zone when it comes to the unknown.
"Wow I have no clue of what to do here."
"Wow this is twice as much as I've ever bet on a single game it my life."
"Wow this guy is shooting back at me with safeties that are the nuts."

Negative thoughts come to our attention because it requires our attention. Trying to ignore it doesn't get rid of the problem. It's still there. You need to ask yourself serious questions.
"Whats really bothering me here?"
"What has changed my game?"
"Is it losing multiple games?"
"Is it that I have no answer for his great safeties?"

Answer yourself honestly as you sit in that chair.

"Sure, he has won quite a string; yet I am quite capable of running the same string right back at him."

"Safety play is what makes this game more of a challenge at higher level play. It's well within the realm of possible... no make that probable that I can make a good kick and not sell out. Or when theres no chance, I'll tie the balls up with a foul. Either way I'll step up in this unfamiliar territory."

Then get up out of the chair and take the Joe walk. (By the way I like this a lot Joe!) Heck, think of Fat's in the Hustler after he went to, "Wash up." It's a clean slate from this point. I have thought it all out and constructively I'll put together an answer to his game.

Heart for some must be gained in the heat of battle. Think of it as, "putting time in" to one of the goals your trying to obtain for your overall game. Like they say in war itself, "Firing a weapon is easy, till they start firing back."

Regroup and fire back...
