I'm about to make the jump to a custom cue and am totally lost as far as customs go. I want the best playing and best quality cue for about 400-500$. How it looks is 3rd on my list. Quality and performance/feel is what means most to me. If someone with alot of custom cue experience could help me out here it'd be greatly appreciated.

As of now I'm considering Dave Jacoby and Rick Howard. I only live 30 minutes from Rick but I have yet to get over and see him. I tried about a week ago and he has no cues that are in playable form yet. I'm going in about 3 weeks to see his work and hopefully get to hit with a couple of his cues. How do you guys feel about Rick's cues? How do they stack up to others?

As far as David's cues. I haven't even gotten to see one yet. But i've seen nothing but good reviews of his service and product all over the net.

BTW: I'm sorta torn because a cue like I want from rick is going to cost me about 800$ with 1 shaft :/

huk.....from personal experience you cant go wrong with rick......he makes a great cue and i feel he is one of the best not so well known about cuemakers out there ......also take in account hes also a helluva player so he knows what it takes to make a great hitting cue.....i feel you are doing yourself a great injustice in choosing jacoby over rick as i have hit with cues from both makers and feel that rick is by far a better choice........i know you would be very happy with what rick will build you and you will get what you pay for ......juston coleman

lots of things play into this. how long do you want to wait? how flexible are you on the specs?

cuemakers sometimes have cues laying around that are for sale. however, this is not a "Pure Custom" if you just buy one he has laying around, unless of course it fits your specs exactly.

there is a guy down in Madison, Indiana, goes by Madison Bob and he does excellent work. you might check out his website to see if he has anything available. MadisonBobs.com.

good luck, i have a Nova Custom, and am seriously considering a Jacoby in the near future.

rick's cues

i have played with a Rick Howard.. i had a Sneaky pete Rick howard that i use to play with all the time but it was stolen. i am talking to him about making me a new one as we speak. i would go with his cue over the jacoby anyday...

Thanks guys. I actually have gotten to hit with one of ricks older cues that is somewhat like the one I am going to get. It hit like a dream for the 8 balls I got to hit with it :/. I am considering Rick more than Dave because of how close I am to where it will be built. As far as the wait. I'd wait 2 years if thats how long it took to make the best playing cue available. The only thing that's keeping me from ordering one of Rick's cues right now is the financial factor. I'm going to have to at least save until the end of the fall just to have the money for the cue. But if it hits just right. I'll save for it. Those kinda words from you Juston make me want these 3 weeks to end sooner :D.

Here's the website for Auerbach Custom Cues. John Parker (proprietor) makes a very nice hitting Cue & a beautiful work of art that's the mark of a craftsman.
