Need some Jump/Break cue reviews

Hi guys,
I'm planning to buy my first jump/break cue, I just started playing for a few months so I just want to get a cheap one first, then get a better one when I play better.
I'm choosing between these 2:

Players JB528 Jump Break Cue (28oz)

Rage Heavy Hitter Jump/Break Cue (25oz)

I like heavy cue because I feel better when breaking the rack with it.
Which one should I get?
Please give me some advices.
Thank you.

One item to consider. A very heavy Jump/break cue is likely to be heavier when broken down to jump too. That’s generally less optimal in jumping.

I can’t speak about personal experience with either of those two cues, however I did own a McDermott stinger jump/break (NG01) that worked pretty well for me, until I finally moved to dedicated break and jump cues, which i find to be a much better option, though obviously a bit more expensive.

A jump break cue is not an ideal arrangement.

a) in a jump cue you want the shaft to be as light as possible, so it deflects away from the CB as fast as possible.
b) in a break cue you want the shaft to be as hard hitting as possible (stiff), to put as much energy into the CB as possible.

The only things the jump cue and the break cue have in common is the phenolic tip you put on.

Also note: you get faster CB speeds with a lighter break cue.................

Why pay twice for the same thing, if you can afford a good one that costs more, buy it now. If you are a new player, I also suggest not to practice your jumps on anyone's table but your own if you want to keep your hands non-broken. Unless you get permission of course.

I’m not a huge fan of jump/break cues but if I had to buy one, I’d get a HXT Pure X jump/break (LINK). Seyberts has it listed at $255 but I’ve seen them under $200 on places like open billiards market on Facebook.

I saw in a recent online match Shane using a grey steel? jump cue, two piece with a black ferrule. The handle was the same diameter as the joint. Anyone know who makes this?

There are a number of jump break cues out. Some will do only one well and no be designed to do the other well. As stated before, the McDermott Stinger is a really good jump/break cue for the money. Keep looking around. If you are interested in the stinger, PM me as I am a sponsored player/dealer for them and can get you a decent deal on one. If not, I hope you find what you are looking for.

For $159, I bought this one:

Below the price it says: free joint protectors. Confirm that if you decide to buy. My review is here. This j/b cue is unique in that it comes with two shafts: one for breaking(hard leather tip) and one for jumping(phenolic tip). The cue is actually the 3rd generation--I don't know why the auto generated blurb says 2nd gen.

i had Rage Heavy Hitter j/b and it does have great energy for break. There is 3.5 oz bolt, so weight can be reduced to 21.5 oz. Some good players tried it and liked how break.
After 1 year i swapped for Players JB12 because of weight preference. Players is 18 oz and for me is good enough, still main focus on improving ball pocketing and position.
Both cues have 14mm tip and beside weight main difference is jump handle, Rage HH cue have ~3" shorter jump handle compared to JB-12, so that might be interesting to someone. Don't know the position of jump handle joint for a Players cue mentioned in first post
