what would you like to have such as entertainment outside the tourney. like maybe break contests? you know something for the people to do while they are taking a break.

Going back in time some, but

I always liked the 'Rolling Ball' contests they used to have.
I believe that 11 in a row on a big table is the world
record, and the ball has to be at the foot spot before
you can make it.

I used to do them all the time, kind of like a warm-up
and timing thing, but had to quit mostly, because if I
did a few before a money match, my opponent would
get this funny look on his face ... lol and want to adjust
the game before we started ...

1 rack shootout !

1-rack shootout is the best entertainment ! Takes a couple of hours though.
Entry is $5, single elimination 9-ball race to 1. No buy-backs. When there are 4 players left, it's back to L8 and the empty spots are filled by auctioning the place for the opponent of each remaining player separately. Usually bids raise quite high, especially against the weaker remaining players, adding up more $$ in the pot. Winner takes all = could be over $1k !

Very popular because anyone can win a nice pile of $$!

Edit: The downsize is that the tournament is usually halted during the shootout, mostly it's done in the evening after the games when everyone can enjoy a few beers and shoot a few racks assuming the tournament matches are not forced to played very late.

Sudden Death 3 ball

Sudden Death lag contest

Sudden Death spot shots

Just take aspects of the game and add the word "Sudden death" to it :)

The idea of a break contest is good. Would like to see someone beat Alex's 6 on the break or Dany harrimans 6 on the break in the game of 7ball.

How about getting some pro's (men or women pros) to do challenge matches?

Line up balls on the headstring and the cue ball.
Player rolls a ball downtable, then gets down on cue ball
to shoot, when the object ball gets even or below
foot spot, he can make the rolling ball into one of the corner
pockets. The line of sight for making the ball is the same
all the way. The closer it gets to the foot rail before shooting,
the thinner the cut. The object is to see how many in a row you
can make. The winner is the player that makes the
most in a row. When you miss, you're done. You can
have multiple trys if you want. Like, if you only had
2 players competing, you could give each player
3 trys.

They used to shoot these in competitive tournaments among
the pros in the old days, kind of like 1 pocket being an event
today. If you get good at these, it will really help your normal
aiming. Don't try to roll the object too slow, it just doesn't work.
It is a matter of timing, rythim, and aiming. I like to get a better
player into a rolling ball contest, because they all think they can
do it, until they actually try it. You have to be fast, especially
if you are rattling off object ball after object ball. Most try to pause
inbetween and it screws them up.

I have done 12 in a row on a bar table. Haven't tried it in years on
a big table.
