need some table and cue help from you azb'ers

im finishing my basement into a pool room and wasnt really looking for a table yet, but i may have run across a deal and was just looking for some input. This guy has a 9 foot brunswick hawthorne in cherry that hes looking to sell. Its in pretty good shape overall, torn down and ready to move. He showed me the invoice and the table new was like $3100, brunswick still sells them but not in 9 foot and they run about 3600. Honestly i was going to hold out and try to pick up a used gc 1,2,4 or a diamond, but maybe this table would be ok for now, double or triple shimmed with simonis 860? I just want to be able to work on my game and stay in tune for tourneys and gambling. I can probably get this table for 7 or 800.
Ok the other part of this is........me and the guy got to talking and shooting the bull, nice guy, and he pulls out what he says is a huebler ivory or ebony king that he bought in the 80s new wholesale for $900. He used to run a pool room hence the wholesale price. I dont see where it says huebler anywhere on the cue.......but it looked pretty nice, ebony forearm with ivory diamonds cut into the points......points were rounded. More work on the butt cap, irish linen wrap, steel pin, looked 5/18 and the shafts had nylon inserts and what looked like ivory ferrules (3 shafts). Ive looked for info on this cue but havent found anything yet.....he offered me the table and the cue (and i could probably get the 2x4 its george case its in) all for $1000. Any opinions or info out there on either the table or the cue.........im seriously thinkiing of buying it and even if i resold it down the road and got a diamond or gc, i prob wouldnt lose any money........hell i might can sell the stick and get my money back, it just worries me that i dont see huebler on the butt anywhere, i thought he signed them.

I used to sell brunswicks about two years ago. That is fair deal. The hawthorne is a nice table and uses the exact same rubber/slate as the GC IV, the only difference in playability of course is the construction and solidness of the GC.

See if you can get him to include the install into the price(on average 125-200 depending on distance) and you should have yourself a great table and cue to play with at a great price! :)
 
ok thanks guys...........any more info out there on the table or the cue? I have to let this guy know something today
 
If your still finishing your basement i would not get the table.it will only be in the way even in pieces.you say you want a Gold Crown then don't settle.a person puts alot of work into remodeling a room for their ideal room..i say wait till the room is finished and get the table you have always dreamed about..good luck.

well i actually have a place to store it.......so it wouldnt be in the way while i try to finish up. I definitely woudlnt get it if i had to store it down there too, too much to work around. I wanted something close to a commercial table, similar to what I will be running into in pool rooms. Heres the thing though, my local room closed down about 2 months ago, and its killing me not to have a place to play........i have to drive an hour now to get to felt. Im really torn on this....i called a guy last night and he said new simonis and putting it on and putting the table together and leveling would run me about 550 total. I wish this thing was together now so i could see how it plays, but its not so i have to go in blind.

The table sounds like a good deal.

The cue sounds like a Huebler (I played with Huebler cues for over 30 years), especially the nylon insert, but would have to see it to be sure. And I met Paul Huebler in Vegas at Nationals. The high range in Hueblers, in the old days, used to be about $1500. IMO, the cue and case for $200 more is definately a deal.

The $550 for Simonis, and moving and setup is reasonable. About $300-320 for cloth put on, and $200-250 for moving and setup. Not cheap, but reasonable price. And, you probably could recover this cost by selling the cue and case, if you wanted to.

$1,550 for everything included sounds very reasonable to me from your description, without seeing anything. Is the table Cherrywood, or just a Cherry stain finish? BTW, my cousin's $500,000 RV has Cherrywood throughout, and it is absolutely beautiful.
 
he said it was cherry........but i cant swear its not cherry finish. One of the side boards has some scars in it and needs refinishing and it was the same color down in the boards as on the surface so id say its cherry wood. I will actually have to move the table myself, the rails are off and the slate is just sitting on the frame, so its ready to go. The local guy said not moving it, just the cost of the cloth and putting the table together would cost me 500. Im really having a time deciding on this, last night i was on ebay and saw several tables like i was considering in the 1000 price range....of course there was travel to get them and take them apart and bring them home. Thanks for the info everybody......im gonna call him and try to dicker some.
