Need time period of this Rich cue

I have this Rich Cue Company cue and need to know the time period of it. I have been told by a reliable source that it is from the 60's and was made when Sal still owned the company, but now that I am selling it on ebay, someone has contacted me and says it is from 75-76 and made by imperial. I want to be as honest as I can with the sale so if anyone has info, like cataloge stuff, etc. I really appreiciate the help. The Blue Book online wasn't any help.

It's easy when the manufacturer's label with their name is still on the cue.

It's pretty obvious, and it is indeed in the blue book online, just as you quoted in your ad. :rolleyes:




From 1975 or 76-1982 Imperial owned Rich cues.

What I was told was that Rich made cues for imperial way before they were bought by them. I haven't seen any Imperial cataloges that show this style even closly. The blue book covers the 76 Rich cataloge and they state that the logo was a gold Q under clear window. I haven't been able to find anything involving the sticker.....
The style does seem more like the Doc Fry and Paridise style from the sixties, which Sal's company seemed to emulate, so..... how can one tell? Anything in print would help...otherwise speculation just keeps me going round and round.

Ah, I see what you mean.

The window cues are "easier" because they are marked, but they are still hard to date I think. The rest are "unmarked" though if you are lucky they still have the original sticker on them.

I was under the impression the ones with that sticker were the ones that were later...but I could be wrong.

There have been several discussions here in the forums about these cues. What I get at this point is that they are simply hard to ID and date.

There were other brand names that these cues were marketed under, just to confuse things, like this Bison:

It's entirely possible I am wrong on the date range. Maybe we can get some better info.

Rich Q Bison

I'm always interested in Rich family cues, including the post Ike Algaze period, 1975-6, when they were "Rich Q by Imperial," of which I have several examples. The "Bison" is a new one on me, however. Can you tell us more about this cue and maybe share a few more pictures?

I got the pic from a google image search, I know nothing of that cue. I do have Rich cue myself, but it has no stickers and I am not %100 sure if it is a Rich Q or a Florida cue...or other. I found it here in Florida and at the moment feel it is most likely a Florida Cue.

I can tell you I have seen other Bison cues on Ebay. I have also seen other names on Rich cues in addition to that. That just happens to be the quick example I came up with when I wanted one for my post on the matter.
 
Imperial sold Rich cues until the late 80's if memory serves me right. I got serious into cues and repairs and such in 1987 and Rich was still advertised in the magazines then. I think Imperial was the one selling them at that time.
 
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but some might be interested.

My belief at this point regarding the posed cue is that "Imperial" is actually the model. It is a Rich Q brand cue. The fact that it shares the name with the later brand is just an accident of fate it seems.

In addition to the Imperial, the other Rich Cue models I have found marked like this are:
Bison
Cobra
Zebra

I believe these cues came after the 1976 catalog that has been cited (I have one). I believe the cues we are talking about here are late seventies or early eighties cues.

Yes, Imperial did buy Rich....but these are Rich Q branded cues...the name under the logo seems to be the model. The parent company indeed was Imperial in the time frame I am speaking of.

At least, that's where I am on these at the moment.

This was my first cue... I bought one almost identical at a sporting goods store in my area called SportMart around 1978... I remember trying to polish the joint to look like a Joss I had seen..haha.. I actually think I did a pretty good job for a youngin..:)
