i was watching some of the BCA Tournament on ESPN yesterday and did my eyes deceive me or was that a new "Measles-Type" cue ball that they were playing with?

or was it the same measles cue ball they have been using for a few years now?

I don't think changes were EVER made to the red dots, so you're seeing something else that ain't there. I heard rumors that they came out with an IMPROVED measles ball after a while, but it just had to do with getting the weight very consistent at 6 oz. and not lighter like some of the originals of the "red circle" CB. It now weighs the same as the balls or the Brunswick Centennial CB. It is in fact 6 oz. right on the nose.

cue ball

i dont know about the weight but it rolls alot faster than a red or blue dot cue balls.I have one and its hard to control for me cause of the speed.

I can't play with those at all... Need a red circle cue ball. I remember playing when I lived in Massachusetts and the rooms I'd go into would only have the red dots. I ended up having to special order my own red circle.

My serious answer- I did not see any new measle cueballs on ESPN or on the Aramith site. How many spots did you see.

My smartass answer- Yes I believe they do change the balls they use in the BCA each and every year. :D Any extra spots you may have seen could indicate you have Beri-beri disease.

Question- Has anybody seen any of those other cueballs by Aramith that used to be used a lot? I think they were WHITE.

I've only seen two types of the Aramith "measles" cue ball. The older ones had a yellowish tint to them and they felt & played a bit on the heavy side. Also the dots appeared to have a darker red tinge to them.

The newer ones that I've seen with the newer ball sets look to be more whitish in color and it seemed to feel to be about the same weight as a red circle cue ball. The dots on those look to be a lighter red.

Hmm. I have purchased 3 genunine Aramith cue balls. The first is a "Red Circle" purchased about 3 years ago, the second is a "Aramith Logo" that came with a set of Super Pros purchased 2 years ago and the third is a Pro Cup "Measles" ball purchased about 6 months ago. Of these three the Red Circle is the darker yellow, with a noticably shinier and deeper surface finish. It also noticably keeps its shine for a long time and wipe clean easily.

The other 2 cue balls are a very similar shade of white and surface finish to the balls in the Super Pro set, and lose their surface shine and pick up dirt as easily as the Super Pro object balls do. They are harder to clean than the Red Circle cue ball. I have never tried weighing or measuring them so cannot tell you if there is any major difference in their specifications other than the surface finish.

A friend has an original Pro Cup purchased during the very brief period when they were initially on the market a year ago before they recalled them from individual sale and were only selling them as part of the "Advantage" package. It appears visually to be identical to the current one, the same lighter shade of white and the same problem getting dirty easily.

Personally the "yellow" Red Circle is my favourite of these, as it's surface stays shiny and smooth longest. HTH, YMMV.

Nobody else notices that they play faster.Me and several others at the local pool hall all agreed that it rolled faster than the red dots we all play with.

The two Pro Cup cue balls I had the chance to view and experiment with were the real deal and not imitations. Of the two, I preferred the whiter one as it played more like a red circle cue ball. The yellowish one played and felt heavier; it reminded me of the squiggly S SA cue ball in terms of its performance.

We can actually get the measle ball for a snooker set over here in the UK. Wierd as hell to play with on 12 footer. Drives the old timers up the wall!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Interesting. The "squiggly S" cue ball is the Aramith Logo cue ball I mention that is the standard cue ball in the Super Pro set (You have to buy the advantage set to get the Pro Cup cue ball.) I have had the exact opposite of your experience, both the Pro Cup balls and the Aramith Logo balls I have seen were the whiter color, and my Red Circle is the darker. Can Aramith really have this much variation? Does anyone know for certain if they have 2 different types of material and/or surface finish? Can you choose which one you want when you order a new ball?

Not for certain but I’d say yes. Since Sulac (Aramith) also makes the Brunswick Centennial balls, which include an off-white blue circle CB. This appears to be made of different material.

You could always e-mail and ask them. They’ve been helpful to me in the past, more so than Brunswick.

For those that would like to view a product page. http://www.saluc.com/html/billiard/index.php?idlien=10

My guess, as to the difference in color, is one may be a TV Pro Cup and other Pro Cup.
